Kushikino City became the fifth city of Kagoshima Prefecture on 1st October 1950.
The faster construction of the South Kyushu Highway for the western area, the right to open Kushikino New Port to foreign trade, completion of the network of highways and the port facilities will decidedly enhance and promote economic and civil progress.
We think that the city government should be organized to promote better dialogue with its citizens so that they give their support willingly support and further more so that it gains the cooperation of neighbouring cities.

Many tuna fishing companies based in Kushikino never land their catch there, and might only visit the port for repairs once every five years or so.
Family run tuna fishing businesses continue to be run from Kushikino, and long liners are registered to the port, but many young people in Kushikino have never even seen a bluefin tuna.
Several years ago an enormous public works project built a large outer port for Kushikino long liners, because the inner port used by local fisheries is not large enough for long liners.

Also, re-exploitation of abandoned gold mines is very popular now, following the theory that there are quality gold ores (rich gold raw ores in another word) in the depth of 200m to 250m under the ground level.

 ESTIMATE OF THE ENEMY SITUATION
It is estimated that during the 24 to 48 hours subsequent to landing the Japanese could oppose our forces in the Kushikino Plain with up to 1 division plus 4,000 to 7,000 air, base and service troops; building up to 2 divisions by about X-3 to X-5.
The V Amphibious Corps landing in the Kushikino area would initially be opposed by one division; a minimum of 24-48 hours would presumably be required to assemble it in position to counterattack.
A tactical terrain study was also being prepared detailing the highways from Kushikino to Sendai and from Kushikino to Kagoshima, showing characteristics, width, and condition of all bridges, the road profile, and a study of the terrain on both flanks of the road.

Typhoon No. 21 (MEARI) struck near Kushikino, Kagoshima, around 0830 on September 29.
Figure 1 shows typhoon No. 21 as observed by MODIS on board the Terra satellite at 0152 on September 28 (JST).
The course temporarily changed toward the northeast due to the influence of westerlies near Japan, and the typhoon struck near Kushikino.
