Kushtia, Kushtia district or Kushtia Zilla is the name of a district in the Khulna administrative division of western Bangladesh.
During the Partition of India, Kushtia was made a separate district, consisting of Kushtia Sôdor, Chuadanga and Meherpur subdivisions, in 1947.
Kushtia district consists of six upazilas, four municipalities, 39 wards, 70 mahallas, 61 union parishads, 710 mouzas and 978 villages.

 Eid day death threat to Kadianis - Bangladesh
At least 70 members of Kadiani families at Uttarbhabanipur are languishing holed up in their at houses as village leaders have called for death to all Kadianis on the Eid-day if they do not embrace Islam by then.
Earlier on October 24, at a meeting at Dharampur bazar, Union BNP leader Jalal Uddin urged the villagers to sever all contacts with the Kadianis on the basis of a Fatwa that any connection with the Kadianis was against Islam.
Kushtia Police Superintendent Abdus Salam visited the area and held talks with the locals on November 4.

KUSHTIA, Mar 29: Arsenic menace has taken a serious turn in 16 districts of the country, including Kushtia, affecting more than 1.50 crore people.
The people of Kushtia, Meherpur, Chuadanga, Jhenidah, Chapainawabganj, Naogaon, Khulna and of a vast areas of Rajshahi have been badly affected by arsenic contamination.
Health assistants and the field workers of different NGOs started advising the villagers not to drink arsenic polluted water of their tubewells.Meanwhile 26 persons of two families of village Islampur under Mokarrampur union of Bheramara upazila have been attacked with arsenic related diseases which caused death of Montaz Ali (60) from among the affected persons.

Annual demand of fish in Kushtia is around 18,242 tons where the annual production of that is about 12,724 tons only, which shows clearly a deficit of around 5,516 tons.
There are about 14,831 ponds of around 2116.58 hectares of area in Kushtia that spars luminous future of fishing in the district.
Despite not only presence of such reputable water bodies in Kushtia but also favourable wind of fishing, fish production here is not satisfactory only due to the absence of proper plans.

They reportedly had to flee Kushtia in early May to escape threats and harassment following the filing of charges, and only returned to Kushtia on the day of the protest rally.
Following the incidents of violence at the rally, the printing of the Dainik Andolaner Bazar, a daily newspaper that continued to print articles relating to the elections, is also reported to have been suspended on the instigation of the same BNP member of parliament.
Investigations should be prompt and those found to be responsible must be brought to justice in accordance with international standards of fair trial, regardless of their position or political affiliation.

Three Kushtia-based journalists had to flee the south-western district last week and take refuge in the capital in the face of what they said were death threat from a local BNP lawmaker and false cases filed by him against them.

"We left Kushtia on May 10 and are now staying in Dhaka as Shahidul deployed a number of musclemen at various points in Kushtia town to kill us," said Hasan, also Kushtia district correspondent of satellite television channel RTV, while reading out the statement.

Acting on a tip off that Shaekh Abdur Rahman or Bangla Bhai were staying in the area, over 1,300 law enforcers launched the combing operation in the morning to nab the two through house-to-house search.
Over 600 policemen from Meherpur, Kushtia, Jhenidah and Chuadanga, and 450 members of RAB and 250 BDR took part the in first spell of the combing drive.
Five helicopters from Dhaka joined the law enforcers and hovered over the sky of the two upazilas so that the JMB leaders could not go out of their security net.
