The calculated ex-vessel of the Bristol Bay salmon fisheries totaled $62.7 million, which is the fourth lowest ex-vessel value for the last 20 years.
Kuskokwim Area commercial salmon fisheries occur in the Kuskokwim River (Fishing Districts 1 and 2) and at Quinhagak (Fishing District 4) and Goodnews Bay (Fishing District 5) in Kuskokwim Bay.

Unit 2: Kuskokwim Shoals The Kuskokwim Shoals critical habitat unit is a subset of the proposed Kuskokwim Bay critical habitat unit.
The primary constituent elements for the Kuskokwim Shoals Unit are marine waters up to 9 m (30 ft) deep and the underlying substrate, the associated invertebrate fauna in the water column, and the underlying marine benthic community.
The Kuskokwim Shoals is known to be of importance to Steller's eiders during molt and for staging during spring migration.

One of the Nightmute families did not fish for herring at all in1987 due to personal circumstances; the other family transported fish to the village because they wanted the proximity to medical facilities because one in their family had failing health.
New racks were built by two families in Toksook Bay, and one family in Nightmute replaced and old rack with the new one.

In response to the record low returns of salmon in the Bristol Bay and Kuskokwim region of Alaska, the National Marine Fisheries Service today declared a commercial fishery failure, in the region.
The commercial fishery failure occurred as a result of the inordinately poor runs of sockeye and chum salmon in the Bristol Bay and Kuskokwim River areas.
According to data supplied by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, the 1997 harvest of 12.3 million sockeye salmon was the lowest catch since 1978.
