They had said earlier that 17 people, 16 miners and an engineer, died in the accident Thursday at a state-run mine near Gediz, in the province of Kutahya.
The victims were trapped in a gallery about 300 meters (985 feet) underground after the explosion caused a cave-in and started a fire.

EMET, Aug 3 (A.A) - The highest quality ''boron'' in the world is extracted from the mines in Emet and Hisarcýk Counties of Kutahya Province, which are operated by the Etibank, it was reported on Monday.
Officials said that 75 percent of the world's boron reserves are in Turkey, adding that there are boron reserves of 24 million tonnes in Emet County, 151.2 million tonnes in Hisarcýk County and 643.7 million tonnes in Espey County.
A total of 334,400 tonnes of boron ores and 50,000 tonnes of the concentrated boron were extracted in 1997 in Turkey and the boron reserves can meet the needs of Turkey for years with her existing production capacity.
