Kuujjuaq (Inuktitut: ᑰᔾᔪᐊᖅ) is the largest Inuit village in Nunavik, Québec, Canada with a population of about 2000.
It is the administrative capital of Nunavik and lies on the western shore of the Koksoak River.
Kuujjuaq also witnesses annual migrations of the George River caribou herd.

KUUJJUAQ, Quebec — MP for Abitibi-James Bay-Nunavik Guy St-Julien today announced on behalf of Transport Minister David Collenette the signing of an agreement between Transport Canada and the Kativik Regional Government for management of Kuujjuaq Airport from January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2002.
The management agreement for Kuujjuaq Airport provides for a lease on the property for the nominal sum of one dollar and a contribution arrangement allowing the Kativik Regional Government to cover the facility’s operating deficit for a period of 36 months, from January 1, 2000 until December 31, 2002.

In the Kuujjuaq accident, had any of the passengers survived the impact, it is unlikely that they would have survived the five-day wait for search and rescue personnel to find them--notwithstanding that they were only 38 miles from Kuujjuaq.
The medical condition of the accident pilot that required him to carry adrenalin is not mentioned in his civil aviation medical examination report, although the regulations require that pilots self-declare their status as pilots to examining physicians, and the condition should have been declared by the pilot during annual TC medical exams.

On the morning of 30 May, prior to the flight, the pilot telephoned the Kuujjuaq FSS for current weather conditions and the destination forecast.
On departing Kangiqsujuaq, the pilot knew that the current weather conditions and the conditions forecast for Kuujjuaq were favourable for VFR flight.
But the crater is in a largely uninhabited region, and the pilot was unaware that the weather quickly deteriorated west of Kangiqsujuaq and that the weather at the crater was poor.

KUUJJUAQQuebec government officials have been crisscrossing Nunavik recently to put the finishing touches on deals that will bring more housing, daycares and firehalls to the region.
Louise Harel, Quebec's minister of municipal affairs, also visited Kuujjuaq on April 6 to announce three new housing programs, as well as the creation of a new Nunavik regional housing office that will become active on January 1, 2000.
Quebec's minister of family and child welfare, Nicole Léger, also recently toured three out of four Nunavik communities where new daycare centres will be built next year.

For those not familiar with northern Canada, it might be noted that the community of Kuujjuaq (formerly known as Fort Chimo) is located in Northern Quebec near the coast of Ungava Bay and that this community is predominantly an Inuit community.
Makivik Corporation was established, in 1978, by way of special provincial legislation (of the Province of Quebec) that gave the corporation the mandate to receive and administer compensation monies on behalf of the Inuit of Northern Quebec and to oversee the proper implementation of the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement (JBNQA).
The Inuit of Northern Quebec also refer to the portion of Quebec located north of the 55th parallel of latitude, which is the area of their traditional land use and occupation, as the region of "Nunavik".

Even though the Quebec government has delayed the construction of their new building in Kujjuaq for one year, employees of the Kativik School Board will still move to Nunavik on schedule.
An article called "Quebec City once again delays KSB to Nunavik," published in Nunatsiaq News January 12, reported that the Quebec education department is putting off the construction of the KSB’s administrative offices in Kuujjuaq by one year, until July, 2002.
The article mistakenly inferred that, as a result, the move to Kuujjuaq of 17 employees who are now working in curriculum development, training, research and computer development in Montreal would also be postponed until July, 2002.
