Sebald rose to read a prepared statement blasting the Russians for their treatment of Japanese prisoners, Derevyanko took the floor himself, went through the formality of charging "American imperialists" with cooperating with "Japanese Fascists." Having had his say, Derevyanko stalked moodily out of the meeting room.
Said General Douglas MacArthur of Derevyanko's walkout: "I can well understand the reluctance of the Soviet member to listen to so gruesome and savage a story in all its harrowing barbarity.

Douglas Mac-Arthur knew what he was doing, and was prepared to insist that his critics did not.
Most uncomfortable was the way Red Army General Kuzma Derevyanko found this out last week at a meeting of the Allied Council for Japan.Derevyanko started with lots of chips.
Since almost all Japanese public men were tainted with militarism, it would not be difficult to strike at MacArthur by bringing charges against members of any government that might be formed.

All 10 signers were participants in the surrender ceremony; 7 of the 12 were signers of the Instrument of Surrender and 3 were senior members of the U.S. delegation.
The signers here were: Douglas MacArthur (Allied Commander), Chester Nimitz (USA), Yoshijiro Umezu (Japan), Bruce Fraser (UK), Kuzma Derevyanko (USSR), Jacques LeClerc (FR), Conrad Helfrich (Netherlands); and three members of the U.S. delegation were: Admiral William F. Halsey, Rear Admiral Forrest Sherman, and Lt. General Richard K. Sutherland.
On September 2, 1945, at 4 minutes past 9 o'clock, the Japanese representatives signed the official Instrument of Surrender, prepared by the War Department and approved by President Truman.

On September 2, 1945, on board the American aircraft carrier «Missouri» that was on raiding in the Tokyo Bay the Japan surrender document was signed.
In the name of the USSR the document was signed by General-Lieutenant Kuzma Derevyanko, Soviet army attaché in Tokyo.
The USA President Harry Truman declined the proposal of the Soviet Command to conduct Victory Parade with participation of all allied army representatives in Tokyo.
