KwaDukuza Municipality, as a change agent in the region, is actively pursuing the formation of the North Coast Economic Development Cluster Spatial Development Initiative, which aims to identify sustainable economic development opportunities that will integrate with the strategic development direction of the North Coast area, including the Isithebe industrial estate.
The vision of the municipality is that KwaDukuza Municipality shall, by the year 2010, through unity and good governance, be an economic powerhouse delivering sustainable and affordable services in a safe and healthy environment.

KwaDukuza, previously called Stanger, is a historic capital of the Zulus.
It was founded around 1820 by King Shaka as kwaDukuza (Zulu: Place of the Lost Person) because of the capital's complex labyrinth of huts.
After Shaka's assassination in a coup by two of his half-brothers, Dingane and Umthlangana (Mhlangane), on September 24, 1828, the town was burnt to the ground.

KWADUKUZA -- Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini and Deputy President Jacob Zuma were among thousands of people who attended King Shaka's Day memorial celebrations at KwaDukuza (formerly Stanger) in northern KwaZulu-Natal at the weekend.
The celebration commemorated his death and is held in KwaDukuza annually near his grave.
According to the KwaZulu-Natal Tourism website KwaDukuza was where Shaka built his last capital, called kwaDukuza -- "the place of the lost person".

The conflict between the Maphumulo Taxi Association and Stanger Taxi Association in KwaDukuza, north of Durban, appears to be finally resolved.
The associations agreed on among other things, to stick to the arbitration process which started in December last year and that the Maphumulo taxi association should continue to operate in the long distance taxi rank which they have since vacated because they believed it was no longer safe to operate in it.
However, he was concerned that all role-players in the KwaDukuza taxi conflict have made some serious violations of the arbitration award and all parties who attended the meeting agreed to this.

 Doctors for Life supports AIDS orphans
Cape Town, South Africa (PANA) - Doctors For Life (DFL) is supporting its first day care centre for AIDS orphans in the Etete area of KwaDukuza, north of Durban.
The day care centre, which supplies meals and basic care to 35 orphans, is presently housed in a small room, which is completely inadequate.
"We would like to thank the Mayor of KwaDukuza, the Councilor of Etete and the Municipality of KwaDukuza for their support in finding the right place for these facilities which will contribute to our efforts in helping the orphans," said DFL spokesman Anne Hyams.

 Sappi KwaDukuza Resource Centre completes successful self-learning software pilot project
The educational resource centre, located in the Stanger area, is a non-governmental organisation that caters for approximately 92 schools in the surrounding area.
It will allow KwaDukuza to store, search for, manage and deliver information from one centralised location.
Dimension Data KZN and the KwaDukuza Resource Centre plan to partner with Internet Solutions and a satellite communication company to introduce virtual classrooms into other rural areas.
