Kymi river (Finnish: Kymijoki, Swedish: Kymmene älv) is a river in Finland.
The river flows from the lake Päijänne and enters the Gulf of Finland near the city of Kotka.
Part of the river served as a border between Sweden and Russia from 1743 to 1809.

The goal of this dissertation was to study the development potentials and trends of fishing tourism as a means of adventure tourism in the lower course of the Kymi river.
Fishing tourism in the lower course of the Kymi river is considered nowadays a current and controversial issue in the area of Kotka and one of the burning problems is therefore how to develop fishing tourism in its customer services and tourist attraction potential.
According to the results of this study the biggest obstacles for further development of fishing tourism in the rapids of the Kymi river are the disputes on the landuse of the riverbanks as well as the current undeveloped state of tourist trade and services in the Kymi river area.
