Subramaniam studied medicine and registered as a medical practitioner in Madras (now Chennai), before he obtained a Master's degree in Western Classical Music in California.
Subramaniam is an Indian violinist, trained in the classical Carnatic music tradition of southern India, but has dabbled in various other genres: he has recorded with Stéphane Grappelli, Yehudi Menuhin and others, written works for orchestra and film scores, and written books on Carnatic music.

Despite the range of influences, the basic rhythmic and melodic structures are rooted in India; Subramaniam isn't faced with the problem of adapting his playing to fit different templates.
The other three pieces include a duet with koto, a trio with erhu and tablas, and an ensemble piece with Balinese vocalists (performing part of the monkey chant) and African percussion.
There's sensitive and soulful playing from all the musicians, and the combination of the violin with instruments like the koto and erhu makes for an intriguing mix.

I thought some of the members who may live around the Midlands area of the UK may be interested in seeing this musician whom Stanley obviously rates highly.
