Sigma Tau Delta - Beta Beta
L33t places a great deal of mental maneuvering and semiotic effort between the signifying word and the literal meaning of it, and most readers do not have the tools or the desire to decode it.
Looking at the effects of l33t should yield an answer to the question posed earlier, “when the literal meaning of language is lost, or coded beyond recognition, what properties does the language retain?” The analysis of l33t, while somewhat removed from its advocates, will draw some validity from the perceptions of those familiar with it.
L33t remains a form of language and is then, by Chastain’s standards, for communication, which it does by form and function.

L33t programming language - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The language was deliberately designed to have the ability to self-modify and to have socket connectivity.
This is so that the language can theoretically be used to write viruses or to crack into other people's machines, although due to its obfuscated nature, it will probably not be used for any serious purpose.
The language uses a 64K block of memory, and 2 pointers - a memory pointer and an instruction pointer.

Leet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Leet (or 1337, l33t, l33+, etc, derived from the word "Elite") is a linguistic phenomenon associated with the underground culture centered on telecommunications, manifested primarily on the Internet.
In this regard, Leet resembles a creole language, a pidgin, or mixed language.
Davis and Rawlinson have demonstrated that readers of most languages are capable of understanding the meaning of a word, provided complex phonemes and diphthongs are not corrupted.

leet - Article and Reference from OnPedia.com
Leet (most commonly 1337 but often also leetspeak, leetspeek, l33t5p34k, 133t, or l33t) from the phonetic form of the word "elite", is a cipher, or novel form of English spelling.
In the phrase "r0x0rz my b0x0rz", which means the object of the phrase (usually a game, program, exploit, etc.) is of high quality, the "x0rz" in "b0x0rz" and "r0x0rz" is pronounced "kszors".
Leetspeak can be said to be an expression of some general laws of sociology as it applies to small tribes or cliques which strive to maintain a sense of elitist cultural identity and uniqueness in the midst of the 'ignorant masses' by inventing linguistic and fashion styles.

Industrial-grade programming also requires an abundant amount of discipline and planning in order for the programs to be reliable, robust and easily maintainable.
Whereas a low-level language concentrates on the capabilities of the underlying hardware, a high-level language shifts the focus to the problem solving process.
In this series, the primary focus will be on the C programming language, with emphasis on object oriented programming using C++ later on.

It is a programming language which can be coded in leetspeak, and has networking functionality and the ability to self-modify.
While esoteric programming languages, and Brainfuck in particular, are a subcultural expression centered around computational theory and mathematics.
Viewed from the subjective perspective of the leetspeak subculture this particular attribute of "l33t" adds another layer of coded meaning to leetspeak and is therefore an extension of the subculture into new domains of expression.

Leet is the all-alpha translation of "l33t" (the "3" is represented as a backwards "E"), broken down as "l" and "33t," and thus "elite." "leet" doesn't exactly become "elite" until you know how it breaks down.
The word itself is derived phonetically from the word "elite", and is a cipher, or cryptic form of English spelling.
It is also sometimes used as a way to imply certain impolite expressions without causing offence (The emotive impact of these words in raw language overwhelm their denotive meaning), similar to the !@!*@($%) type expressions commonly seen in cartoons to indicate cursing (The desire is to interject the meaning w/o the negative impact).

An esoteric programming language is a computer programming language designed to experiment with weird ideas, to be hard to program in, or as a joke, rather than for practical use.
Some languages are created mainly for the purpose of being weird and difficult to program in.
INTERCAL's main purpose was to be as different as possible compared to normal languages (although there are still many similarities with conventional programming languages), and Malbolge was designed with the goal of being next to impossible to use.

It's hard to judge the suitability of a language without practical experience in it — where pointer arithmetic is familiar to a C hacker when manipulating arrays, it's terribly unidiomatic in a language with queues and stacks as available data structures.
Assembly languages are for noobs that can't be bothered with learning all the opcodes and instruction formats of their chosen processor.
Unless your programs consist of pushing a couple things on the stack, and maybe taking a wild ride loading a storing a few things in memory, writing assembly will most likely only give you buggy code that is impossible to follow along that only runs on your architecture.

 BBC - h2g2 - An Explanation of l33t Speak
Phrases such as 'I am elite' became common place, and somewhere down the line l33t speak crept in, reforming the phrase into '1 4m 3l1t3' in order to demonstrate that the speaker was a hacker and someone to be feared.
But eventually, l33t speak began to fall out of use because of the amount of time it takes to type, as well as the overuse of it by some, changing it from amusing to annoying.
Although l33t speak is just a corrupted form of the English language, there are many phrases and words (spellings) that are unique to it.

"l33t sp34k" is the international internet language coined by script kiddies and trolls who like to clutter up message boards and chat rooms with their claims of being "l33t H4xX0r5".

The language has some interesting distinguishing features, such as the possibility for self-modifying code and for connectivity - it's theoretically possible to use it to write viruses and other such antisocial software but the actual logistics of trying to write such a program put it well beyond the cognitive capabilities of the average script kiddie.
