	IANA \| Report on Recognition of LACNIC as a Regional Internet Registry \| 7 November 2002
		LACNIC has developed and implemented clearly defined procedures for the development of resource-management policies for its service region, as well as for participating in development of global policy recommendations through the Address Supporting Organization.
		LACNIC also submitted a comprehensive, three-phase transition plan, which was endorsed by the ICANN Board when it gave provisional recognition in March 2002.
		LACNIC has developed and implemented a comprehensive set of policies and procedures to ensure that the information its collects in the registration process will be kept in strict confidence, and used for registration purposes only.

		On 28 November 2001, the Regional Latin-American and Caribbean IP Address Registry (LACNIC) applied for recognition as a new RIR in the region of Latin America and the Caribbean.
		On 14 March 2002, the ICANN Board gave its provisional approval to the LACNIC application for recognition and transition plan, subject to submission, in consultation of the ICANN President, of a revised application for full recognition of LACNIC in conformance with the criteria set forth in ICP-2 and the ASO-MOU.
		A revised application submitted by LACNIC has been determined to be in conformance with the criteria set forth in ICP-2 and the ASO-MOU, and has therefore been approved by ICANN.

		At its open policy meeting in late November 2001, the LACNIC organization presented to ICANN an application for recognition as the RIR for the Latin America and Caribbean region, together with a transition plan developed in cooperation with ARIN, the RIR that currently serves that region.
		On the basis of the staff evaluation thus far, some adjustments to the LACNIC documents will be necessary; however, it is clear that the application and transition plan constitute a reasonable basis for full recognition.
		LACNIC's accomplishments thus far have been notable, and warrant a statement of conditional approval by the ICANN Board, to indicate its support and agreement that LACNIC is on the right track to fulfill the requirements for RIR recognition.

	ASO Meetings
		After a bit of discussion to clarify who the staff are accountable to (LACNIC or NIC-BR) a clearer and shorter text for the MoU was agreed to by the various LACNIC founding members and signed.
		LACNIC will hold an open public policy meeting in the first week of December 2000 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
		In 45 days, according to the MoU between LACNIC and NIC-BR, a formal contract should be signed between NIC-BR and LACNIC to host LACNIC operations in Sao Paulo, Brasil.
