	LBT Project Overview
		The goal of the LBT project is to construct a binocular telescope consisting of two 8.4-meter mirrors on a common mount.
		The LBT Corporation Board of Directors oversees the project, which currently includes two representatives from Arizona, Italy, and LBTB, and one representative from Ohio and Research Corporation.
		During the 1996 construction season, the site for the LBT telescope on Emerald Peak was cleared of trees and rocks and a retaining wall was erected along the northeast side.

	LBT Project as a Response to a Challenge
		LBT is the most cost effective project of the current generation of large telescopes under construction in terms of cost per collecting area (the primary measure of power in a telescope).
		Thus the effective LBT field is limited only by the atmosphere (approximately 2 arc minutes at 2.2 microns) while that of the other telescopes is restricted to a few arcseconds.
		Thus, the LBT will be unique in making high resolution true images even on faint objects while the VLT and Keck pair will complement this capability by extending the angular resolution to simple structures.

	Bandi New Testament dedicated in Liberia
		Dale Federwitz, an LBT missionary serving in Liberia, was present for the event.
		Becky Grossmann, the LBT advisor for the Bandi New Testament project, spoke of her involvement with the translation and shared several stories of how God intervened and worked to preserve and complete the manuscript.
		Mike Rodewald, LBT missionary now serving in Botswana, was also a part of the project for 8 years before Becky (Tegtmeier) Grossmann, was assigned as the project advisor in 1989.

		Certain standards are outlined which should be followed in order for LBT drawings to be easily transferred from one design office to another and incorporated in other LBT drawings.
		This template LBT drawing form was updated in March 1997 to reflect our current use of Autocad attributes in the title blocks.

	Steward Observatory Mirror Lab - LBT
		This casting was the world's largest optical telescope mirror blank made from a single piece of glass (a title now held by LBT #2).
		Theh the 8.4-m mirror had to wait a few months for completion of polishing on the Magellan 6.5-m mirror.
		To get some idea of the size scale of the mirrors we construct, note the optician in the central hole of the 8.4-m primary mirror for LBT.
