 System Configuration and LCFG: Tutorial Workshop 13th June 2007
The workshop introduced the underlying principles of system configuration, and showed how LCFG can be used to help automate the process.
Throughout the day talks were interspersed with hands-on sessions including the creation of new components, as well as the configuration of real systems, using components provided with the LCFG distribution.
Attendees were also shown how to extend LCFG for their own site and given some pointers on starting an LCFG installation.

This section proves that LCFG is parsable in O(n.sup.3)-time by exhibiting a simple bottom-up recognizer for LCFG that is in the style of the CKY parser for CFG.
The fact that LCFG forbids wrapping auxiliary trees guarantees that a pair of indices is always sufficient for representing the left context.

 DataGrid Newsletter - March 2002
Developed at the University of Edinburgh since 1993, LCFG is used at Edinburgh to automatically install and configure a site consisting of hundreds of Linux systems, with hardware varying from laptops to servers, and tens of software updates per day.
LCFG is currently the core technology behind the WP4 configuration middleware.
The adoption of LCFG by the DataGrid project coincides with a general move towards greater external use of LCFG.

 WP4 Tools - Farm Setup
For each node the LCFG server must store a configuration table so that the node is installed as CE, SE, UI, WN as planned in the local site.
LCFG is much more than an installation tool as all operations on the nodes are controlled and started from the LCFG sever.

The partitioning and grub configuration facilities in LCFG are very impressive however because centrally we are looking for LCFG to provide an OS configuration rather than a whole machine configuration our approach is to neuter this power.

The LCFG Installation Guide gives a step-by-step guide to installing a Testbed site from scratch using LCFG.
The LCFG and Post LCFG pages should contain an up-to-date list of all the configuration details necessary for the latest EDG Version.
Most of the Post LCFG Configuration steps given in the Post LCFG and GridPP VO pages will not need repeating after an upgrade, either because the relevant changes were made in the site specific files, or because the changes made on the individual nodes were not overwritten.

Once the LCFG daemon is installed on the node the first time, it will update itself on every reboot.

 Difficulties
A LCFG server was setup, with the LCFG release as of 2 of April 2002.
This machine was first configured to install a LCFG client as a Computing Element.
We reported this as a bug and the problem was solved in the meanwhile; a newer boot image was released.

 Large Scale Linux Configuration with LCFG
This is a development of the LCFG system which has been used successfully for several years under Solaris.
The introduction provides some background on the general problem of large-scale configuration, together with a short comparison of typical solutions, and a brief description of the original LCFG system.
Some future plans are then discussed, including a major reworking of the LCFG implementation, LDAP integration, and our intention to make the technology more widely available.

Some cunning LCFGing might make it possible to automatically apply those configs to the test machine (and possibly pipe them through sed/perl filters to change the vhosts to point to actual ones for that host?) as part of a testing policy.
Not sure about hooking it up to the current RT database though) integrate the two, and tardisify the scripts that import ldap -> rt user info from the RT contrib stuff.
