		The Landing Craft, Vehicle, Personnel (LCVP) or Higgins boat was a landing craft used extensively in World War II.
		The craft was designed by Andrew Higgins of Louisiana, based on boats made for operating in swamps and marshes.
		With a full width ramp troops could leave en masse and a small vehicle such as a Jeep could be carried and it became the LCVP (Landing Craft, Vehicle, Personnel), or simply, the "Higgins Boat".

		A bit of information on the LCVP, which served the LST as a tug, liberty boat, water ambulance, ferry, carrying of troops/vehicle to the beach, and as a lifeboat.

	LST 494 Higgins Boat(LCVP)
		All of the men who served on LST 494 were assigned to what was called "extra-hazardess duty." No one, however, had it any tougher than the men assigned to the "small boats." These were the Higgins assault boats(LCVPs) that would land troops and material on an invasion beachhead in advance of LST 494.
		In the European Theater LST 494 carried 6 LCVPs, as opposed to 4 in the Pacific Theater.
		During the Normandy Invasion, these LCVPs from LST 494 landed troops from the 1st Infantry Division into the teeth of the most heavily fortified German sector-Omaha Beach.

	Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme
		The primary goal of the LCVP is to prepare young people for adult life by ensuring that they are educated in the broadest sense, with an ability to cope and thrive in an environment of rapid change.
		LCVP students follow the same subject syllabi and are assessed in the same way as their peers in the Leaving Certificate.
		LCVP students receive the same certificate as other Leaving Certificate students but their Certificate includes an additional statement of the results of the Link Modules.

		It's hard to explain, but if you took out the ports on the back of the current LCVP and extend it backwards a bit that's where the platform would be for the coxswain and gunner to stand on.
		Kind of ridiculous when the only way to keep your head down in an LCVP is to crouch or go prone (didn't the real ones have sides high enough for a man to stand without being exposed?), but I'm guessing it's quite low priority at the moment if anything.
		The LCVP was made of wood, but the ramp was definitely steel plate.

		We started for the beach in the LCVP and the Bosun did an incredible job of handling the craft.
		We got almost to the beach and the line-handlers were just about to jump out and race for the shore with the anti-broaching lines when we got slammed by a wave and it knocked us around.
