Leadership Development for Schools   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
The Leadership Development for Schools (LDS) initiative was established in November 2001 to develop a comprehensive School Management/ Leadership Programme of training and development for principals, deputy principals and others involved in school management and educational leadership in first and second level schools in the Republic of Ireland.
Direction and guidance for LDS is provided by an Internal Management Committee appointed by the Department of Education and Science; the programme is administered by Clare Education Centre where a full-time programme administrator is based.
LDS is currently focusing on providing professional development for newly appointed, first-time principals at first and second level through its Misneach programme.

Mormons and Mormon Beliefs: An Introduction to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormons)
For serious students of LDS topics, some of my most extensive pages deal with the genuinely deceptive attacks made against the tiny but significant Book of Abraham (including the surprising evidence from ancient records that supports the Book of Abraham) and the charges that the LDS Temple is derived from Masonry.
The Christian Eucharist (communion or, in common LDS terminology, simply "the sacrament") is sacred and uplifting to those who understand it, but in the hands of caustic critics, it has been characterized as a grotesque and bloodthirsty act of ritual cannibalism.
Official, canonized LDS doctrine is found in the scriptures and in statements or proclamations of the First Presidency that have been presented to the Church for a sustaining vote.

Homosexuality: A Psychiatrist's Response to LDS Social Services
In recent years the LDS Church has moved away from its more blatant sexist positions (as demonstrated in changes in the temple endowment ritual) but still insists upon the sexist-based, Western cultural conceptualizations of “masculinity” and “femininity” as universal and -- sadly -- eternal.
That various elements of sexism are institutionalized in the LDS Church, as well as other organizations whose leadership and power are assigned based first on gender, is beyond speculation and speaks more to the historical social contexts during which such institutions arose than to purposeful discriminatory bias.
LDS Social Services should be at the forefront of this struggle, using insights gathered from the mental health and social sciences to help "perfect the Saints" by eliminating such individually and collectively corrupting falsehoods rather than distort knowledge and facts to justify oppressive standards and norms.

LDS women writers of all levels who live in the United States are invited and welcome to become members of ANWA.

Answers About Mormons and Mormon Belief (LDS FAQ - Latter-day Saints)
Even the "official" LDS Web Site is not necessarily a definitive, canonized source of "Mormon doctrine" (but it does have outstanding resources about many things of interest to Mormons and those interested in Mormons and Mormon beliefs).
Official LDS doctrine, that which members are expected to accept, is defined by the scriptures (the Bible, the Book of Mormon, and a few other items in the LDS canon) and by official, ratified pronouncements of the First Presidency of the Church.
Explains the LDS concepts of free agency, the foreordained Fall of Man, and the plan from the beginning for the Atonement of Christ.

deseretnews.com | Few LDS voted Rocky
The majority of LDS voters are Republican, Jones noted, and since both Pignanelli and Anderson were Democrats, GOP voters likely didn't feel they related to either candidate, Jones said.
During the plaza fight, Anderson accused some City Council members, who are LDS, of forming their opinions based on how LDS Church leaders wanted the plaza fight to turn out instead of doing what was best for the city.
Just three weeks before the election, Anderson again angered many LDS residents when he again accused the council of bias in favor of the church when it voted to block Nordstrom from moving to The Gateway.

 LDS Cinema * Mormon Cinema
"LDS cinema" refers to films made to be shown in a commercial theater, made for a wide aspect ratio ("widescreen"), not a television set.
Yet, as meritous as such productions are, they clearly belong in a different category than what we mean when we refer to "LDS Cinema." It is useful to be able to talk specifically about "cinema" without frequent reference to often incomparable audiovisual media of other types.
Well, as used by Dutcher, "LDS cinema" clearly means more than simply "films made by Mormons." Latter-day Saints have been writing, directing, and starring in films almost since the invention of the medium.

 Mormon polygamy
LDS Church Authority and New Plural Marriages, 1890 - 1904 by D. Michael Quinn
Much of the current evidence for the early practice of polygamy in Mormonism was ironically caused by Joseph Smith's son who, like his mother Emma, abhored the practice.
While the wives had largely kept their silence regarding the practice previous to RLDS proselyting efforts in Utah, RLDS stories that Brigham Young created Mormon polygamy caused Utah LDS to become more public in their histories about pre-Brigham Young era Mormon polygamy.
