 LGA 775 Prescott/Tejas Die Exposed
VR-Zone gotten their hands on a LGA 775 Prescott/Tejas and they have decided to open up it up to check out the die.
Though the usual procedure of removing the IHS from the P4 processor is easy but it is not the case for this LGA 775 Prescott.
We find that the die is firmly adhered to the IHS making it hard to remove as there is some sort of solder-like thermal interface in between the surface of the die and the IHS.

This is the complete adapter kit for Intel P-4 socket LGA 775 processors, which allows the CPU-300 cooler to mount P-4 LGA 775 motherboards.
It includes both the LGA 775 Rails, and LGA 775 Spacer (required for some mainboards), to maintain compatibility with the widest range of LGA 775 boards.
The LGA 775 Spacer is designed for motherboards with tall capacitors near the socket that may conflict with the Koolance CPU-300 cooler.

Slipstreamx.net - Reading thread: Intel LGA 775 revield! - Powered by XMB 1.8
Intel’s new LGA, or Land Grid Array, 775 processor socket takes a step away from traditional implementations in that the package no longer features pins, rather the bottom of the LGA 775 processors only have small gold contacts.
With the LGA package, Intel has moved the pins into the bottom portion of the processor socket, something that will make installation of the processor easier in that there is no need to watch for bent pins on the package...although it will make it more difficult as well.
We’ve heard some horror stories about the frailty of these pins, and from working first hand with LGA 775 motherboards, I can say that these stories likely can be taken with more than a grain of salt.

 Legit Reviews - The DFI 875P-T -- LGA 775 meets Intel's 875 chipset
Today we'll be taking a look at one of DFI's latest entries for the LGA 775 motherboard market, the DFI LanParty 875P-T. It is a unique, and very interesting, "hybrid" board that mixes Intel's new LGA 775 processor with the previous generation's 875P high performance chipset.
With Intel's recent release of the 915 and 925 chipsets, most motherboard makers have switched their attention away from the socket 478 to the LGA 775.
A few motherboard makers have released boards that bridge this gap in the 865 chipset, these "budget boards" allow users to upgrade their CPU to the new LGA 775 while continuing to use their AGP and PCI based hardware, but none of these boards really stand out performance wise.

Новый разъём, LGA 775 немного меняет наше представление о процессоре, как о чипе с ножками.

The most visible characteristics of socket 775 are the presence of pins, rather than exposure holes, and the metal frame.
LGA stands for Land Grid Array and refers to the flat contacts at the processor.
Originally, CPUs for the LGA socket were only used in server systems, where the number of pins increased much earlier than in desktop systems, and where innovative solutions were more essential.

When Intel introduced the LGA 775 platform I wonder if they knew how long it would take heatsink manufactures to commit to making heatsinks that would work on this new platform.
I can't remember an introduction of a new platform that was met with a more lukewarm reception than that the LGA 775.
For the buyers it was all about speed, Intel hadn't proven that the LGA 775 with DDR2 memory could out perform the same Pentium 4 Northwood based system.

The problem is that the lga boards use intel chipsets that have major problems locking their pci and agp buses past the 15-20% mark.

ALTHOUGH INTEL will only have a small proportion of Socket T LGA 775 chips available when it launches in the second quarter, by the end of this year those chips will account for 40% of desktop processor shipments.
That has emerged as Intel prepares for what it's telling is its partners will be an extremely speedy shift from the current 130 nanometre (Northwood) technology it's using to the bright new shiny 90 nanometre (Prescott) process.
While many motherboard makers are saying that current Pentium 4 boards will be useable with Prescotts with a BIOS update, the LGA 775 Socket T is of course a brand new Intel bag.

The hot topic at Computex this year was Intel's new 775-pin LGA socket.
Motherboard and memory manufacturers alike were complaining left and right about reliability issues with Intel's new socket, and with the launch less than a month away, we were obviously concerned as well.
The LGA-775 interface also packs the pins closer together, allowing 775 pins to exist in about the same space that 478 pins did on the old package.

We have first gotten our hands on the LGA 775 Prescott/Tejas back in June and many people are curious how it looks like inside when the IHS is removed.
The procedure of removing the IHS is similar to the current Pentium 4 as you would need a thin blade to slice through the rubber padding nicely and slowly.
Other interesting information on the Prescott is that it has 7 layers copper interconnect, Low-K and on Strained Silicon.
