 NCLR - Legal Translations: LGBT People and the California Foster Care System
The agency for whom I work, Legal Services for Children (LSC), has recently partnered with The National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) to study such programs from around the country in order to create nation-wide standards of care for LGBTQ youth in the foster care and juvenile justice systems.
While describing the particulars of the juvenile justice system is beyond the scope of this article, the level of harassment and discrimination experienced by LGBTQ youth in that system is as severe and pervasive, if not more so, than in the foster care system.
Over the next two years, our organizations will speak with LGBTQ youth who are or have been involved in either system throughout the country.
