		KETTNER, ALBERT J. Syvitski, James P.M. Discharge and sediment flux of the Po River, Italy, are simulated to determine the impact of climate change and sea-level fluctuations on the stratigraphy of the Northern Adriatic Sea.
		Monthly climate statistics since the LGM are estimated based on the Community Climate Model1 (CCM1) modeled climate statistics for LGM combined with the present climate statistics and interpolated over time with a normalized δO18 GRIP curve.
		Climate studies in the Alpine region indicate that glaciers reached their maximum extend during the LGM and were approximately at their present position at the start of the Holocene.

		Wang and Sun (1994) have published an LGM vegetation map showing a major reduction in forest vegetation and southwards retreat of climatic zones relative to the present-natural, although we are inclined to say that considering all the evidence together, conditions were more arid even than Wang and Sun suggest.

	International Workshop Global Ice Sheets and Sea Level during the Last Glacial Maximum
		For the ice sheets, CLIMAP presented two optional reconstructions: a minimum model in which ice margins were largely restricted to continental margins and accounted for 127 m of sea-level lowering, and a "maximum" model which included significantly expanded marine ice sheets and accounted for 163 m of sea-level lowering.
		Nevertheless, significant challenges were mounted against this reconstruction based initially on the interpretation of field evidence for less extensive ice, particularly in the high Arctic, and then on the basis of Earth models that infer the distribution of ice loading by inverting relative sea level records.
		This finding seems to require substantial cooling of the deep sea during the LGM, to nearly the freezing point, and based on comparisons to glaciological reconstructions suggests that glacier ice was isotopically less depleted than previously suggested by atmospheric-isotopic models, and some data sets on fossil groundwaters and subglacial calcite.

	Modelling the interactions between transient saturated and unsaturated groundwater flow. Off-line coupling of LGM and ...
		The groundwater flow model for the Netherlands (LGM), and a one-dimensional model of soil water flow (SWAP) were coupled.
		With this combined model, it is possible to calculate fluxes and residence times of nutrients and pesticides in both the unsaturated zone and the phreatic aquifer.
		With the correct storage coefficient, the correspondence between the groundwater heads simulated by SWAP and the groundwater heads simulated by LGM were nearly perfect.

		The period of LGM was chosen (of all Ice Age stages) for the simple reason that it is the closest (and therefore the best reconstructed) of those glacial phases that are most different from the present state of affairs (since we are climatically still close to the climatic optimum which occurred 8,000 years ago).
		The general picture of the LGM world is the following: since large parts of the northern hemisphere were covered by ice sheets (containing vast amounts of water), the sea level was about 130 m lower than today, thus exposing parts of the continental shelf and forming several land bridges.

		Generally, alkenone εp was lower during the LGM compared to the Holocene.
		In contrast, the Holocene to LGM decrease in εp values in the coastal upwelling areas as well as in the eastern tropical Atlantic most probably reflects much higher glacial haptophyte growth rates induced by an increase in surface-water nutrient concentrations.
		The exceptional opposite trend of the εp differences in the Angola Basin can be explained by a shift in the phytoplankton community towards a greater dominance of diatoms under glacial conditions, thus leaving less nutrients available for haptophytes.

		The guests that had to travel very far were brought to the airport by taxi, but most guests used their own cars to head home.
