Railway Technology - LGV Est Europeen High Speed Line |
 | | First to open was the Sud-Est route to Lyon in 1982, which has since been followed by the Atlantique lines to west and south-west France, LGV Nord Europe to Lille, Belgium and the Channel Tunnel and extensions to take Paris Sud Est trains all the way to the Mediterranean at Marseille. |
 | | LGV Est follows the now common pattern of high-speed lines in France, with an all-new 405km line built between Vaires, 23km east of Paris and Vendenheim, just outside Strasbourg, but only the 300km first phase to Baudrecourt has been approved at this stage. |
 | | Originally no new rolling stock was to be built for LGV Est as trains were to be operated by 2+8 TGV Reseau sets cascaded from LGV Nord Europe duties. |
