 Caribbean Net News: 'LIAT is not dead' says airline's Chairman
KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent: Chairman of the Board of Directors of LIAT, Jean Holder on Tuesday made it clear that LIAT is not dead as he announced that the airline had received EC$44 million (US$11 million) from its shareholders to be used for restructuring the cash-strapped airline.
He stressed that LIAT had been severely under capitalized for several years as it desperately tried to acquire the requisite funding from shareholders to restructure the company.
He said that LIAT would work in partnership with the Caribbean Development Bank to acquire funding to implement the second phase, which would involve the expansion of the company including the purchase of additional aircrafts.

LIAT CEO Garry Cullen and chairman Jean Holder announced last week major changes to the business model of the government-owned airline, which carries some 750,000 passengers a year.
Liat flies from King Airport on St. Thomas and from Rohlsen Airport on St. Croix directly to St. Maarten and Anguilla and connects through Antigua to down-island destinations including St. Kitts and Trinidad.

The LIAT flight boarded on time (which I later found is the exception rather than the rule) but after a few minutes we were told to disembark due to technical difficulties.
On arrival I went straight to the LIAT check-in where I was told that the flight to Grenada would be late, but I could go on an earlier flight to Grenada which was also running about 90 minutes late and expected to depart at 4 pm.
The landing was the worst I have ever experienced, with the plane shimmying from one side of the runway to the other (which I am sure was due to faulty maintenance rather than pilot error).
