 post lp5. - autechre - tribe.net
lp5 is one of my favorite albums from autechre.
lp5 is more 'plastic' (synthetic) in sound than other albums.
Confield is one of those albums that I knew upon first listen I was going to like better over a long period of time.

 In praise of: Autechre, LP5 - @forums
A last thought on LP5- Autechre albums are kind of an emotional investment for me, there have been times where the last thing I wanted to listen to was Autechre, but with "Lp5" it's got an accessibility that seems to work with any mood I'm in.
It may be the best thing Autechre's done, even though their programming gets more elusive and intriguing in recent albums, "LP5" comes off like a more emotional and breathing album (with better ideas).
I don't want to say anything I've said before, but I really feel this is one of the best electronic albums to have been released in the last ten years.

LP5 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
LP5 is the fifth album by the electronic music group Autechre.
(The album does not provide a title, but Warp Records reference it as LP5 and that's how it is usually referred to, in line with EP7.
It was released in 1998 by Warp Records.

 Autechre Radio MetaFilter
I haven't liked recent autechre much (anything since lp5 really) but oddly enough what I've heard so far of untilted from stokast's link is sounding like a better direction to me than confield or draft...pro radii and fermium are almost likeable.
You could throw a single pressing of the Autechre back-catalogue into a crowd and everyone would take home their favourite album.
Autechre continues to break new ground and thankfully don't seem to give a rat's ass about what people think and definitely could care less about nostalgic jabber about how the only good AE is the old, mild AE.

 Adrian's Album Reviews : Autechre
Often across this album it seems we have experimentation for the sake of it, almost as if Autechre are trying purposefully to remain marginalized, making sure they don't benefit at all from the attention of a few curious Radiohead fans, for example.
Nothing really occurs on this album that they hadn't done before - there are no new moods or shocking sounds, the shocking sounds become Autechre sounds, the innovation becomes Autechre and is easy to dismiss, if unfair to dismiss in that fashion.
I'd have to disagree with your rating on this, as lp5 was a considerably kick-ass album.

 CD Review: Autechre Lp5
"Lp5" (as it's commonly called, the album actually has no title) comes in a nice grey jewel case with "autechre" imprinted at the top and "ae" imprinted in the upper left corner of the back side.
Most of the tracks are fairly mellow (not as harsh or chaotic as, say, most of "Cichlisuite") and slow in the bpm department.
The front has only a white sticker with the UPC and legal info, the cd insert has only the tracklisting and the cd itself has no identifying marks at all.

Although not for everyone, LP5 [+] should be admired, since it's not comparable to anything past or present.
Since all the songs are cut from the same sonic cloth, the album is best when listened to in its entirety, but the tracks "Acroyear2," "Rae," and "Fold4, Wrap5" are definite highlights.

BBC - collective - Confield (Autechre)
Confield is an album, the sort of which I had never heard before, and have never heard since, except in other Autechre releases.
Confield was a far cry from Autechre's techno-ambient roots in the early 1990s.
Confield is an album that you need to LISTEN to, as opposed to just hearing.

 Autechre: EP7: Pitchfork Review
EP7 just seems to wander around aimlessly, alternating between prime Autechre cuts and uninspired filler.
Perhaps they realize they've become one of Warp's most revered assets and can therefore spend most of their studio time slacking while still receiving tons of critical acclaim and watching their album sales skyrocket.
(It should also be noted that while I believe the band classifies EP7 as an EP release, it is, in actuality, another full- length album.

 Latent Quarter
Confield stands in retrospect as one Autechre's best records.
It's certainly not their most widely beloved or even accepted album, but it represents an important step in that it clears the slate for their entire catalog.
While the last record felt like a collection of only loosely-related pieces, Draft 7.30 feels like an actual album again, something with a narrative flow, perhaps a novel to the last record's collection of set-pieces.

 LiP Music Review Autechre: EP7
The half-formed nature of some these experiments probably explains why the duo were unwilling to label EP7 as the next album, and they were right not to, because given the standard of their back catalogue, this would have been disappointing.
It would probably be unwise to recommend EP7 as anyone's first taste of Autechre, but those with any further interest in what direction the gloriously malfunctioning minds of Sean Booth and Rob Brown might be taking next should probably own this record.
Whilst LP5 seemed at times indebted to drum 'n' bass, EP7 returns to the rhythmic structures of hip-hop and electro, a wide-bottomed groove lumbering through almost the whole of the record.

 Splendid E-zine: at a glance reviews - June 11, 2001
However, as bland as the majority of Confield is, there's still a perverse pleasure to be had in listening to it -- the familiarity and warmth that have always been Autechre’s most endearing qualities remain intact.
Confield takes the minimalist nature of 1999’s EP7 and 1998’s LP5 and pushes it to a monotonous and utterly preposterous extreme.
Now, nearly ten years after that glorious beginning, the British duo of Sean Booth and Rob Brown have released an album that could very well signal its demise.
