	LRRP/Rangers for the 1st Cavalry Division in the Vietnam War
		Welcome to the Official web page of Vietnam veteran LRRP/Rangers who served the 1st Cavalry Division from 1966 until 1972.
		We proudly served our country along with the 1st Cavalry Division as members of LRRP Det. 191 MI, LRRP Det. HHC, Co. E (LRP) 52nd Infantry (ABN), Co. H (Ranger) 75th Infantry (ABN), or HHC Det. 10 (Ranger) of the 1st Cavalry Division (AM) during combat operations in the Republic of Vietnam.
		In 1972 H/75 was deactivated at Ft. Hood, Texas after the 1st Cavalry Division returned from Vietnam.

		Much credit needs to be given to the personnel of the LRRP platoon and the 74th Infantry Detachment (LRP) for establishing the doctrine that would become SOP for Company N (Ranger), 75th Infantry which absorbed the personnel of the 74th Infantry Detachment (LRP) on 1 February 1969.

		The conventional approach to the history of LRRP, LRP, and Ranger unit employment in Vietnam is first to acknowledge the three chronological periods of their existence: LRRP from late 1965 to December 1967, LRP from late September 1967 to February 1969, and Ranger thereafter to the end of the war.
		LRRP units operating in relatively open terrain along the coast, in the delta region, or near Saigon always were in danger of compromise by civilians, innocent or otherwise.
		LRRP units, and later Rangers, performed most of the routine missions for a standard rifle platoon in Vietnam, along with their doctrinal missions of reconnaissance, surveillance, damage assessment, and target acquisition.

		The division-level recondo (LRRP) element was actually formalized after the brigades, although they had actually existed operationally since September of 1966.
		Division LRRP assets were conducting extensive operations throughout Pleiku Province, as well as in large swaths of Kontum and Darlac provinces on either side.

		The 25th Div LRRP Det (Prov) wasorganized in the RVN in 1966 by Cpt Mark Ponzillo.
		What this generally meant was either hey this works we'll try it again or oh crap we got out butts kicked lets try it anotherway.

		The new commander of the Company E, 52d Infantry LRRPs, Capt. George Paccerelli, was tough, but the men's new AO was brutal.
		It was bad enough that the provinces of Binh Long, Phuoc Long, and Tay Ninh bordered enemy-friendly Cambodia, but their vast stretches of double- and triple-canopy jungle were also home to four crack enemy divisions, including the Viet Cong's notorious 95C Regiment.

		Saw a short LRRP documentary on youtube, not sure if thats the one hes talking about or not.

		Our mission was to extract a LRRP team that was totally surrounded, in an area of the jungle with no landing zones.
		LRRP teams were the marathon runners we put out in teams of 6 men to collect data on the enemy.

		Normally the LRRP (patrol) is placed in a position (within enemy held territory) to maintain surveillance over routes, areas, or specific locations for extended periods, reporting all sightings of enemy activity (along with strengths and weaknesses) within the area of observation.

		The USA LRRP Co (Abn) 3779 was activated at Wildflecken, Germany by 7th Army on 15 JUL 61 to serve as V Corps LRRP Company in Germany.
		Few LRRPs knew there were six "burst coders" for the TRC-77s locked up in the company EDP (Emergency Defence Plan) safe with other classified equipment.
		CW capability rapidly atrophied until 10 LRRPs were sent to Ft Jackson for CW training at the end of 1968.
