LSE was founded in 1895 by Fabian Society members Sidney and Beatrice Webb, Graham Wallas, and George Bernard Shaw, with funding provided by private philanthropy, including a £20,000 bequest from Henry Hunt Hutchinson left to the Fabian Society.
The LSE was recognised as a Faculty of Economics within the University of London in 1900.
During these years and under the directorship of Lionel Robbins, LSE redefined the study of economics and the new conception of the study of economics as "a science which studies human behavior as a relationship between ends and scarce means which have alternative uses" is looked to as the norm.

The London Stock Exchange (LSE: LSE) is a stock exchange located in London.
The LSE described the offer as "derisory." It then received a bid in March of 2006 for £2.4 billion from NASDAQ, which was also rejected by the LSE.
The LSE is broken down into the Main Market and Alternative Investments Market (AIM), as well as EDX London (which handles derivatives).

Young, however, died rather suddenly in 1929 and was succeeded by the thirty-year old Lionel Robbins, a young economist much influenced by the work of Philip H. Wicksteed and the Austrian School of economics.
The Robbins years were glory years for the L.S.E. It produced a remarkable group of economists, notably John Hicks, Paul Sweezy, Roy G.D. Allen, Abba Lerner, Nicholas Kaldor, George Shackle, Ursula (Webb) Hicks and Tibor Scitovsky in the 1930s, all of whom went on to stretch and change economic theory in a significant manner.
Laski was hired at the L.S.E. to succeed Graham Wallas in political science in 1920, he eventually became one of its leading spirits.

The LSE report concurs with 79 out of the 85 recommendations made by the House of Commons Home Affairs Committee in its report on the draft Identity Cards Bill.
The LSE alternative ID card would also give citizens far more control over who can access data about them, and hence would be more likely to win positive public and industry support.
The LSE estimates include the costs of 'pulling' information from other government computers needed for verifying people's identities, and of 'pushing' ID card data to Home Office databases, police databases and the Department of Work and Pensions.

Germany's Deutsche Boerse abandoned a £1.3bn ($2.5bn) bid for the LSE in March after a revolt by shareholders.
Following a four month probe, the Commission warned that both potential suitors could restrict access to the LSE's clearing services, making it harder for other exchanges to compete with the LSE in the trading of UK equities.
Following the report the LSE said that although it was confident of its future as an independent group, a merger on the right terms "could be in the best interests of shareholders".

LONDON (AFX) - Clara Furse, chief executive of the London Stock Exchange PLC, has described the proposed merger between the LSE and pan-European rival Euronext as a 'win-win,' and has indicated that she may scrap the London exchange's Dutch service, according to press reports.
Furse suggested that the LSE could be worth up to 750 pence per share in a tie-up with Euronext, based on analysts' estimates of the exchange's standalone value of 415-460 pence/share, plus the projected 150 mln euro in synergies that the Euronext merger would generate, the Independent newspaper reported.
Separately, the Financial Times reported that the LSE is considering scrapping its Dutch equity trading service, after the company revealed on Thursday that the service had captured just 2 pct of the market since its launch in May last year.
