Train operating company LTS Rail is changing its name to c2c as part of a £400-million investment programme to completely rejuvenate the route.
The name LTS Rail, which belongs firmly to the days of steam, is being consigned to the history books on Sunday.
LTS Rail, entered the private sector in May 1996 with a 15-year franchise.

The Great Western Trains and LTS Rail franchises were awarded for franchise lengths longer than seven years conditional on the introduction of new or improved rolling stock.
The franchises were due to commence operations in February 1996 but in the event the LTS Rail franchise was not completed because of allegations of ticketing and settlement irregularities.
The Franchising Director did not invite British Rail to bid for any of the franchises because he judged that their exclusion was desirable to encourage new private sector entrants and management and employee buyout teams to bid for franchises.

[1] Prism Rail was purchased by National Express in September 2000 and the franchise was rebranded as c2c in 2002.
All stations on the route are managed by c2c with the exception of Fenchurch Street which is managed by Network Rail and West Ham which is managed by London Underground.
Unlike other rail operators in the London area, c2c allow Oyster card (including pay as you go) to be purchased at and used between Fenchurch Street, Limehouse, West Ham, Barking and Upminster.

Prism Rail is to withdraw early from its two lossmaking Welsh franchises, split its WAGN franchise into two, and invest £20m in improvements at its LTS Rail franchise.
Prism Rail is submitting plans to the Strategic Rail Authority for the development of a single Welsh railway system, and will also bid for European regeneration funds of up to £150m.

However, it was in 1993 that Barry finally retired from advocating passenger's rights and joined the LTS to advise on timetabling and lay the foundations for what we enjoy today.
Former MD of LTS, Ken Bird, who worked with Barry, said 'It was very sad that Barry left us before the realisation of his dream.

The Franchising Director has today reached agreement in principle with Prism Rail PLC on the restructuring of the group's current portfolio of passenger rail franchises - West Anglia Great Northern (WAGN), Wales and West, Cardiff Railway, and LTS Rail.
LTS will be retained through to 2011 and Prism may invest £20.5 million on the line in areas to be agreed with the SSRA.
In addition, CCTV will be fitted in all of the current order of 46 new trains, to compensate further for their late introduction into service.

LTS rail promising all night services once the new rolling stock was in service.
LTS instigated the new trains, not them, so If they want to take credit for that (which they seem to) perhaps they can honour the other commitments of their predesessors.

Angel Trains, one of the UK's rail vehicle leasing companies, is investing £92 million in 28 new Class 357 Electrostar passenger commuter trains for Prism Rail's subsidiary, C2C (formerly LTS Rail Limited).
The new order is due for delivery by the end of March 2002 and will result in the replacement of all the existing slam door rolling stock.
