La Campanella - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
La Campanella is a piano etude written by virtuoso pianist Franz Liszt as part of a series of the six Grandes Etudes de Paganini ("Grand Paganini Etudes"), S.
The 'Campanella' theme is borrowed from the final movement of Paganini's Violin Concerto in B minor, a rondo in which the harmonics were reinforced in the ringing of a handbell.
An exciting example of virtuosity on the piano is the stunning rendition of La Campanella by Andrei Gavrilov.

 Tommaso Campanella
Tommaso Campanella was born in Stilo, a town in Calabria, one of the southern regions of Italy, in 1568.
In his attack on the Aristotelian tradition, Campanella criticized the doctrines of form and of privation; of the four elements as principles of the sublunary world; of matter as privation; of the derivation of celestial heat from the friction of the spheres; and of the distinction between natural and violent motion.
Campanella begins the “Physiologia” by stating that when the first Being—most powerful, most wise and best—decided to create the world, defined as its “effigy” and the “image” of its infinite goods, it unfolded an “almost infinite” space in which that effigy was placed.

 The Galileo Project
Campanella became a Dominican in 1583 (after a year's novitiate), partly because that was the only avenue by which an impoverished young man could obtain an education.
Campanella certainly had the equivalent of a B.A., although his education was entirely within the institutions of the Dominican order and was not in universities as such.
Campanella's writings encompass a very broad range of scientific topics, and he was one of the important systematizers of the 17th century.

La campanella is a beautyfull music I love it and it`s not easy you must have quite long fingers and large spread.
And i was under the impression the la campanella was four hand song?
yes butter i agree with you that la campanella is not an easy piece at all...and that it does take a good amount of time for someone to acquire the certain technique...BUT...when you are referring to the "double thumb tap"..u are referring, to what most pianists consider, the hardest variation of the first theme.

Paganini Etudes, ver. 1 - Liszt Classical Free MP3
The first manifestation of Liszt's impressions of Paganini came in the form of the extremely difficult work Grande Fantaisie di bravura sur La Clochette de Paganini (1832), which is based on a theme from Paganini's second violin concerto.
The third paganini etude is not based on one of Paganini's caprices, but (similarly to the "Clochette fantasy") on his second violin concerto.
In 1851 he changed this etude extensively, and rewrote it on a single staff (similarly to Paganini's original), where the melody is kept flowing through clever alternation of hands.

La Campanella, is a newly built house in the middle of quiet and unspoiled countryside, overlooking from its terrace the Bay of Naples and the islands of Capri and Ischia.
The owners of the house, living near by, can provide daily in season, fruit and vegetables from their garden, for your kitchen use.
Lying between the Sorrento Peninsula and the Amalfi Coast, the territory of Massa Lubrense is virtually triangular in shape, its northeastern side borders with Sorrento, whilst the other two sides are formed by the Gulf of Salerno and the Bay of Naples, with Punta Campanella at its vertex, facing the island of Capri.

 CD Info - Boris Kovac
La Campanella's Pannonian-Mediterranean round-trip creates sentimental spaces, interrelated by the threads of nostalgia, joy, tristesa, romantic enthusiasm and melancholy: "I cant't change or stop history – I just could say: History is over – for a moment – for the time of music we play on this album."
So while La Campanella’s core elements of sax, accordion, guitar, double bass and drums carry a Balkan feel throughout the disc, the “Pannonian-Mediterranean Round Trip” suggested by its subtitle is in heartfelt evidence.
The tracks, some bearing such cheeky titles as “Limping Waltz” and “Beguine Again,” are a completely engaging mixture of melancholy and chipper that embraces influences as far afield as Gypsy swing, French cabaret and tango.

If you've never heard the latter performance, you're in for a sublime experience: Friedman's Chopin E-flat Nocturne is one of the four or five greatest piano recordings alive.
Friedman's flying fingers laugh in the face of La Campanella's taxing right-hand leaps and Busoni's clotted amendations, and similarly dare Phillipe Gaubert's arthritic orchestra to keep apace in the Grieg Concerto.
La Campanella's gradual pitch drop (a flaw inherent in the original disc) is left uncorrected, while Bryan Crimp's APR transfer solves this problem.

Songlines’ Simon Broughton had it dead on when he called Kovac: ‘the king of apocalyptic cabaret’, as his café stylings, folk dances, and manic-depressive writing style, which moves with little warning between dirge and melancholic laments to frantic dances spins between boundless joy and enthusiasm and the depths of despair.
Kovac, whose new project La Campanella is a spin-off from his critically acclaimed La Danza Apocalypsa Balcanica project, seems to embody this spirit in looks too, his multicoloured velvet jacket with a mixed bag of lurid-coloured oversized buttons stand in direct contrast to his deadly serious expression.
This would be background café music were it not for the deep sadness and edge of insanity that infuses it.
