PopMatters | Television | Reviews | La Femme Nikita
LFN characterizes Section One as greedy and ruthless, but, like any corporation, worried about its image, at least as this is manifested in its "workers." The Section One directors see any display of emotion as a sign of weakness, and any reference to the past as a threat to their deeply undercover missions.
Nikita, however, remains too strong-willed and passionate to be the agency's robot, especially where her feelings for Michael are concerned.
LFN's three major themes — the instability of identity, fear of deception, and the star-crossed romance — come together when, after her treatment, Nikita tells Michael, "I don't love you anymore." Viewers are left wondering.

LFN jumped the shark when it was revealed that Michael had been living a double life complete with wife and child (new baby) all through S1 and S2 and even back to Nikita's training.
Nikita was so overemotional about every little thing and then she was revealed to be a hypocrite All the actions we were watching were a lie on her part and it made no sense logically anyway.
La Femme Nikita being one of my favorite shows of all time was a show that was all about jumping the shark from it's first episode.

Nikita, as in the original film La Femme Nikita, did not commit the crime she was accused of--the murder of a police officer.
And as she has grown and matured in the 4 years the series has been on (this is also how LFN so distinguishes itself from other television shows; the characters actually evolve psychologically, in ways that actual people move through their lives), her outward appearance, her bearing, and her taste in fashion has changed.
Nikita is particular in that sense, and we’re both happy to have all these great clothes.

Nikita was written and directed by an (at the time) up and coming Frenchman by the name of Luc Besson (Subway, The Professional, the Fifth Element...) who has fantastic mind for action, eye for cinematography and sense for musical scores (Nikita has some great industrial sounds which you can also find in the Fifth Element).
La Femme Nikita is/has become somewhat of a cult classic in the US (already is in France)and is one of the movies that put Besson on the map.
For example, in one scene when Nikita is in training and chatting with her trainer Bob in her room, a grill on a piece of furniture on the left side of the screen creates a hugely distracting pattern that always diverts my eye.

La Femme Nikita is a sleek and stylish action-drama that follows a nihilistic young criminal as she gets a shot at a new life and redemption.
When Nikita is eventually apprehended by the authorities, she is inducted into a top-secret government program that gives her a chance to leave her life of crime behind and become a covert operative and assassin.
Even though her training and rehabilitation appear to be successful, questions still remain about Nikita's future as she comes face to face with the violence that acts as the common thread between her two lives—both past and present.
