Jean Baptiste Bénard de La Harpe, trader, explorer, and soldier, was born in late January or early February 1683 in Saint-Malo, France, one of twelve children of Pierre Bénard and Jeanne (Le Breton) Seigneur de La Harpe.
La Harpe was married again on September 9, 1710, to Jeanne Françoise Prigent de Penelan; it is believed that she died soon, perhaps by 1715.
La Harpe was to establish a post at Saint Bernard, but on August 27, 1721, believing they had arrived at their correct destination, the men sailed instead into Galveston Bay.

La Harpe is located in Allen, [AL], county in the southeast corner of the State on U.S. Highway 54, approximately 45 miles west of the Missouri boarder, and 65 miles north of the Oklahoma border.
By 1909 La Harpe had a population of 3,000 and seemed destined to become the largest city in the county.
When the jobs disappeared the population dispersed and La Harpe retreated to its pre-boom status as a rural service center and as a quiet, inexpensive place to live for those who are retired or have work elsewhere.

As part of an incident investigation, Department surveyors learned a resident, who had a history of wandering and was outfitted with an electronic monitor, sustained a bruised face and multiple cuts after wandering away from the facility.
The Department-ordered plan of correction required the facility to provide residents with adequate and properly supervised care and to search all areas inside and outside the facility when an exit door sounds or a resident is reported missing.
La Harpe-Davier Health Care Center did not request a hearing on the Department's action.

Jean Baptiste Bénard de La Harpe (1683- September 26, 1765) was a French explorer, trader, and soldier who sailed to the southern USA in 1718.
La Harpe returned to France in 1720, but sailed for the Texas coast (Matagorda Bay) on the ship "Subtile" in 1721.
La Harpe explored the area up the Arkansas River in 1722, trying to establish trade routes with the Spanish in the southwest; he was unsuccessful and in 1723, was fired by the Company of the Indies, which had subsidized his expeditions.
