		Personalmente he constatado la abundancia de Roccellababingtonii en la Península de Macanao, las costas de Araya, Los Roques, Los Frailes, Mochima Y Bahia de Cata, con poblaciones que se desarrollan tanto en rocas como corteza de árboles y arbustos, otorgándole al sustrato un color gris pardo.
		En la década de 1850-1860, los tintoreros de seda de Lyon lograron optimizar el proceso de obtención del colorante empleando otros solventes, lo que condujo a un mayor uso de del liquen con fines industriales.
		Poseen una baja tasa de crecimiento, limitada a poco menos de 2 centímetros por año, con tamaños que oscilan desde el casi microscópico de las especies que se desarrollan en la cutícula de las hojas, hasta el de ejemplares que pueden medir casi un metro de longitud.
