La Pucelle: Tactics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
La Pucelle: Tactics is a computer role-playing game for the PlayStation 2, developed by Nippon Ichi Software, released in Japan in January 2002, and released in North America by Mastiff LLC in May 2004.
Two of La Pucelle's newest members are Prier, a sixteen-year-old girl, and her twelve-year-old brother Culotte.
La Pucelle is loosely related to Nippon Ichi's Marl Kingdom series, of which Rhapsody: a Musical Adventure (for the PlayStation) is the only game to come out in North America.

What you get with a title like La Pucelle is something that seems almost rudimentary on the outside, but has a distinctive charm and originality that makes it a must-have for those interested in the strategy genre.
Speaking of extraneous stuff, La Pucelle is the story of a special team formed by the church whose job it is to rid the land of demons and such.
La Pucelle has a couple of unique gameplay twists that really help it stand out from what is quickly becoming a crowded genre.

 WORTHPLAYING - - All about games !
La Pucelle: Tactics is a tale of betrayal and double cross, monsters in human form and humans in monster form, set in an alternate medieval Europe.
Sadly enough La Pucelle characters are nowhere near as endearing as the characters in Disgaea, but they make up for it with a more complex and advance system than the one seen in the sequel.
In a sense, La Pucelle is really a cult where they try to purge the darkness, and like in real life, the world doesn’t have only one religion.

La Pucelle: Tactics Review for PlayStation 2 at GameSpot
It's a good game for that crowd, although they may be disappointed to learn that La Pucelle actually predates Disgaea (it originally released a couple of years ago in Japan), and that it lacks some of that game's refinements and better features.
La Pucelle is a precursor to last year's Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, and bears a lot of superficial similarities to that and other strategy RPGs.
At least La Pucelle incorporates the same system as last year's Disgaea, in which enemies' turns are resolved simultaneously--your foes will move as a unit during their phase, rather than one by one--which speeds things up a bit.

 La Pucelle: Tactics - Review
La Pucelle: Tactics is played in a chapter format, where the party progresses through the story in individual battles that can be replayed indefinitely.
La Pucelle shares a remarkable similarity to the Fire Emblem series once attacks are executed, as the view switches to a separate screen where the opposing parties duke it out.
Complementing La Pucelle's story is a wonderful soundtrack, with many familiar tracks from (or should we say continued in) Disgaea.

The church’s demon hunting squad, known as La Pucelle, is the focus of the narrative.
La Pucelle’s mission is not the fulfillment of prophecies or the validation of scripture, but the dirty task of tracking down malevolent spirits and passing them to the next world.

La Pucelle is a sort of sister title/sequel to Disgaea, bringing with it many of the tactical elements seen in Disgaea.
Whether that borrowing is good or bad is an arguable matter of opinion, but as a whole, La Pucelle is a good tactical RPG for fans of the genre.
Even with its weak presentation, La Pucelle: Tactics is a great game for fans of the tactical RPG genre.

It turns out that Prier and her brother Culotte are members of La Pucelle, a squad of demon slayers fighting for a Holy cause.

In La Pucelle, a mysterious underworld lord of quiet despotism is trying to crack the bonds of order by opening dark portals all over the land.
But it should also be said that many will find La Pucelle to be less than adequate compared to complexities and refinements that are present in some of today’s better tactical games.
All things considered, La Pucelle’s quirky premise, disparate character personalities, colorful world, and elementary battles will make this a sleeper hit with the cult fans, and a pleasant romp for anyone else who’d care to try it.

The artwork and graphics are great, the La Pucelle story is one of the better ones to come out RPGs lately, and the whole game in general is just pulled off very well.
But, La Pucelle is an extremely close second and would be a worthy play for anyone even remotely interested in strategy RPGs.
La Pucelle, like Disgaea Hour of Darkness, sadly is going to be missed by alot of gamers out there.

Aside from position advantages--rear and back attacks as well as attacks on higher elevation cause more damage--there are also some traditional RPG combat stables like item enhancements, namely, elemental attacks, which is when the player has an item that can cause additional damage to an enemy susceptible to that particular element.

La Pucelle Tactics > LPT : > Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
Except for one flaw in that thinking: In Japan, La Pucelle Tactics came first and Disgaea was the sequel; but due to typical “it’ll never fly in the US” thinking, it wasn’t until Atlus took a flyer on Disgaea and made some money that interest in porting LPT to the US heated up.
Prier had a tragic childhood and grew up in an orphanage, so becoming a demon-hunter comes naturally out of her upbringing; grow up in an orphanage and you’re likely to be more compelled to careers like those you saw people doing as you grew up.
Unlike FFT, LPT does not indulge in a long, deep list of jobs for your character to master; instead, the emphasis is in gaining skills and proficiencies with certain weapons and equipment in order to become more effective at using them.

Known more officially as La Pucelle: Tactics, this chronologically older cousin of Hour of Darkness not only helps fill the void left behind by the completion of Atlus' effort, it also manages to bring a couple of new elements to the table as well.
In fact, the title La Pucelle itself refers to a special operations teams formed by the Church to specifically to fight the forces of darkness.
But overall, La Pucelle trumps it in terms of pacing, story twists, and general characterization; and for a genre that's typically lighter on story than it's more traditional RPG cousins, that's definitely a welcome approach.
