This township was organized in 1837 by taking a portion of Raisinville, Dundee and Summerfield, giving in geographical area a perfectly square form of thirty-six sections, there being, besides this, but six townships so arranged.
The supervisors who respresented the township in the county legislature were men of sound judgment and conservative methods, such as Peter K. Zacharias, Wm.
The village of Ida is located in the extreme northwestern portion of the township and contains a population of several hundred, with good schools and quite a respectable number of merchantile institutions, with a station of the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railroad (branch from Monroe to Adrian), with telegraph and telephone facilities.

I found an internet record from La Salle County in 1850, showing an Elizabeth Baldwin dying from child birth complications in 1850 at the age of 20 (so she was born about 1830 and was married to Marquis when she was seventeen in 1847).
He was the Genesee Township School Inspector in 1858, and in 1866 was the founder (one of the founders?) of the Genesee County Medical Association.
The Frenchman La Fayette was a war hero, so it is not surprising that Daniel and Susan named one of their children after the great General Marquis de Layfette.
