	Sleeve Notes - Vivaldi: La Senna Festeggiante
		The librettist for La Senna festeggiante, identified on the title-page of the score in the hand of its copyist, the composer’s elderly father Giovanni Battista Vivaldi, was Domenico Lalli (1679-1741).
		La Senna re-imposes his presence with a stirring aria, ‘L’alta lor gloria immortale’, and the first part concludes with another ensemble in Arcadian vein, ‘Di queste selve’; Lalli adapted its text from a chorus that he had written for an old serenata, Calisto in orsa (1714).
		La Virtù’s ‘Così sol nell’aurora’, airily pastoral in tone, is set to a text adapted by Lalli from the anonymous libretto of Apollo in Tempe, a serenata written in honour of the electoral prince of Saxony, later Friedrich August II, on the occasion of his visit to Venice in 1712.

		La Senna Festeggiante is recorded complete for the first time, with the missing section newly restored by leading scholar Carlo Vitali and conductor Robert King.
		The scoring is for three principal voices, with the brilliant soprano Carolyn Sampson as L'Eta dell' Oro, alto Hilary Summers as La Virtù and the fine young bass Andrew Foster-Williams as La Senna.
		The Wedding Serenata Gloria e Imeneo, recorded here for the first time, was written to commemorate the marriage of Louis XV and the Polish princess Maria Leszczynska and was performed in Venice in September 1725 in a loggia at the end of the Ambassador's garden.

		As far as I know there has been a recording (on Italia) with the Cappella Coloniensis (I can't remember the soloists), but there is no recording in the catalogue.
		The soprano Mary Nelson (L'Età dell'Oro) was a new name to me, but I was quite impressed with her performance.

		La Senna was missing some recitative (and was recorded that way by Alessandrini); here the scholar Carlo Vitali has supplied the text, perfectly in keeping with the high-style of the rest, and King has supplied the music.

	La Serenissima::Biographies::Mhairi Lawson
		While still a student at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Mhairi won the International Early Music Network Young Artists Prize with the fortepianist Olga Tverskaya, which led to her first CD recording of Haydn's English and Scottish Songs (premiere recording on original instruments).

		At the Palazzo Altemps in Rome they gave the first performance in modern times of Vinci's serenade 'La Contesa dei Numi' in the same countryard where the works was first given in 1729.
		Their recordings of Vivaldi's Vespers and his Chamber Concertos won two Gramophone Awards in 2004, the former also a finalist for Record of the Year.
