	La terra trema
		La lunga e silenziosa sequenza finale in cui la mdp segue i desolati vagabondaggi di un Edmund pentito segna il secondo momento alto della pellicola, una serie di campi lunghi nei quali il dramma del ragazzo si fonde con quello di una collettivita' smarrita, presente nella terribile cornice delle macerie berlinesi.
		La pellicola soffre della frequente, opinabile scelta "neorealista" di affidare i ruoli a non attori con il conseguente, penoso risultato di personaggi impacciati davanti alla mdp la quale registra impietosa le loro artificiose risatine, i loro gesti esagerati, i loro discorsi mal pronunciati, privi di ogni naturale fluidita'.
		Ovviamente quando la medesima attivita' viene in seguito svolta dagli onesti, "proletari" pescatori allora la musica cambia: ci si accorge in quel frangente che si tratta di un vero, impegnativo lavoro, ma cio' viene messo in ombra dall'atmosfera festosa (degna del piu' trito realismo sovietico) che attraversa casa Valastro durante la salatura delle acciughe.

		I think we'd both agree that LA TERRA TREMA was a crossroads for Visconti, and looking at what direction he took his aesthetics with SENSO and ROCCO, I'd say he did what he felt was right, taking you happily along while leaving me high and dry.
		Perhaps we can agree that, when put side-by-side, LA TERRA TREMA posits questions about stylistic approach to a certain subject matter that Visconti would find answers to in ROCCO; as you said, LTT is an intermediate step in Visconti working out his cinematic issues.
		I see Visconti being more honest as a filmmaker in LA TERRA TREMA; I can see him asking himself questions about how to present these people that doesn't take these people's lives, their reality or their humanity for granted.
