In 1948, the School of Performing Arts was created to provide training in performance skills to students who wished to prepare for professional careers in dance, music or drama.
LaGuardia Arts is one of the original four specialized high schools in New York City, as established by the New York State Legislature in 1972.
It is important to note that LaGuardia Arts was the first school in the nation to provide a free, publicly funded program for students with unique talents in the arts.

LaGuardia was born in The Bronx to an Italian lapsed-Catholic father (Achille La Guardia), from Cerignola, and an Italian mother of Jewish origin from Trieste (Irene Cohen Luzzato), and he was raised an Episcopalian (most Italian Americans that are not Roman Catholic tend to be Episcopalian because of its similarity to the Roman Catholic Church).
LaGuardia served in U.S. consulates in Budapest, Trieste, and Fiume (1901–1906).
LaGuardia had remained Mayor of New York during this appointment, but after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1942 he was succeeded at the OCD by a full-time director, James M. Landis.

LaGuardia was born in Greenwich Village in 1882 to Achille Luigi Carlo LaGuardia, a Catholic, and Irene Luzzato Coen, who had been raised in an observant Jewish home in Trieste.
When Fiorello LaGuardia was elected to Congress in 1922, the first bill he introduced called for the death penalty for "scavengers" who supplied tainted food to the military.

We reproduce it here as a scathing indictment of the inferior education available at LaGuardia, of the epidemic of cheating that the Administration (and many Faculty) chooses to ignore, and of the low esteem in which LaGuardia is held by prospective employers.
The school should be responsible and find a solution for cases such as these in order to achieve safer and smoother operations.
