LaRue County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky.
LaRue County, formed in 1843 and named for John LaRue, was originally the southeast part of Hardin County.
In the county the population was spread out with 25.00% under the age of 18, 7.70% from 18 to 24, 28.20% from 25 to 44, 24.00% from 45 to 64, and 15.00% who were 65 years of age or older.

The first LaRues arrived in the summer of 1785 (French Hugenots who had fled France, their name was actually Le Roux, but spellings tended to get confused in the new land).
In 1792, Kentucky became a state; Hardin became a county; Elizabethtown was named county seat, and the settlers fought what proved to be the final battle against the Indians.
As a county, LaRue had to have a courthouse, and one was duly finished the next year.
