It is bounded on the north by Neosho County, on the East by Crawford and Cherokee counties, on the south by the Indian Territory, and on the west by Montgomery County.

Labette County's population was estimated to be 22,169 in the year 2005, a decrease of 580, or -2.6%, over the previous five years.
The racial makeup of the county was 89.28% White, 4.66% Black or African American, 1.95% Native American or Alaska Native, 0.32% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 1.20% from other races, and 2.58% from two or more races.

Bent be admitted to a seat in the House.  He was admitted, and afterwards submitted a Bill to "organize and define the boundaries of Labette county," which passed, and was approved the 7th of February, 1867.  The word La Bette is French, and signifies "the beet."

We're told Labette County EMS was responding to the scene, where a trailer was flipped over and a big rig was reportedly knocked off the road.
At least a dozen tornado warnings were issued in Oklahoma and about as many in southeastern Kansas as severe thunderstorms raced off to the northeast.
