 Labialisation
Labialisation is a secondary articulatory feature of phonemes in a language, most usually used to refer to consonants.
It appears in families as varied as Northwest Caucasian, Athabaskan, Salishan and (from a diachronic perspective) Indo-European, where it is thought that the proto-language, Proto-Indo-European, used labialised velar consonants, and Minoan Greek appears to have used it as well.
Labialisation is not restricted to lip-rounding, although this is certainly the most common type.

For that, first of all, the registeral structure of CBL is described (the Chapter 1): the syllable structures of CBL, the tone and its registeral characteristics, the accentuation, the peculiarities of inspiration according to the degree of opening of speech canal, the prosodical correlations in the sphere of vocal syntagmatics and so on.
Then the timbre structure of CBL is characterised(the Chapter 2): the main tone and overtones, the mechanisms of nasalisation, glottalisation, pha-ringalisation and labialisation.
The sets of phonemes in concrete CBL, their systemes of vowels and consonants are registrated as the results of transformation of energy of speech respiration into the sound substance by means of consecutive processing in timbre and registeral subdivisions of apparatus of verbal activity (AVA).

 Ubykh language, alphabet and pronunciation
Even though the plain [v] sound does not occur in Ubykh, В в; is included in the alphabet for the purpose of transliterating foreign words.
В в is also used as a labialisation marker [_w] when preceded by another consonant.
/u/ marks labialisation of all types, and /i/ palatalisation (including in the alveolopalatals; despite the fact that they are not truly secondarily palatalised like the velar and uvular phonemes, the alveolopalatals still affect vowels in a similar way to the palatalised velars and uvulars).

This immediately introduces a disparity between the use of 'i' in the Adyghe script and its use here in Abkhaz, for, not being faced with the necessity of having to indicate palatalisation in Adyghe, Höhlig was free to use this vowel-character in the way she chose.
It would be convenient to adapt Höhlig's Adyghe script in both these ways, so that in place of her dunayer I would write diwnayer, and in place of her zi I would write ziy.
Phonological labialisation in Abkhaz has at least three realisations (lip-rounding, as in [SW], vs labio-dentalisation, as in [tCW], vs double articulation with bilabial trill, as in [tp]); no distinction is made between these three types in the script.

Furthermore, these vowels appear to escape any attempt to establish regular sound correspondences between these languages when applying the comparative method in order to reconstruct the common proto-forms of what obviously appear to be otherwise cognate words.
The synchronic distribution of these prosodies will be explained, partly at least, in terms of diachronic processes in which affixes that were added to the lexical root or base play a role.
In a nutshell: "vanished" affixes may still define today what is a "word" in these languages by constraining the effects of labialisation and/or palatalisation prosodies.
