Duck is the common name for a number of types of bird in the family Anatidae.
Ducks are mostly aquatic birds, smaller than their relatives the swans or geese, found in both fresh and salt water.
Ducks should not be confused with several types of unrelated birds with similar forms, such as loons or divers, grebes, gallinules, and coots.

Labrador Duck - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Labrador Duck (Camptorhynchus labradorius) was a striking fl and white eider-like sea duck that was never known to be common, and is believed to be the first bird to go extinct in North America after 1500.
The last Labrador Duck is believed to have been seen at Elmira, New York on December 12, 1878; the last preserved specimen was shot in 1875 on Long Island.
Although hunted for food, this duck was considered to taste bad and rot quickly and consequently was not sought much by hunters though it is thought that the eggs may have been over harvested.

The Penguin duck is the most remarkable of all the breeds; the thin neck and body are carried erect; the wings are small; the tail is upturned; and the thigh-bones and metatarsi are considerably lengthened in proportion with the same bones in the wild duck.
In the Labrador duck the premaxillaries are rather broader than in the wild duck; and in two skulls of this breed the vertical ridges on each side of the supra-occipital bone are very prominent.

EIDER (Icelandic, i~dur), a large marine duck, the Somateria mollissime of ornithologists, famous for its down, which, from its extreme lightness and elasticity, is in great request for filling bed-coverlets.
Generally the eggs and down are taken at intervals of a few days by the owners of the eiderfold, and the birds are thus kept depositing both during the whole season; but some experience is needed to ensure the greatest profit from each commodity.
Every duck is ultimately allowed to hatch an egg or two to keep up the stock, and the down of the last ne~t is gathered after the birds have left the spot.
