The park is located about 10 km East of the downtown core of Gatineau and is thus easy to reach from Ottawa by any of the main bridges.
The city offers several recreational activities in and around the park chalet, and several groups use the building and the nature preserve around it for their activities.

Also in Gatineau Park on both May 17 and 18, a Cerulean Warbler was heard along the Western Trail, approximately one half mile from the Champlain Lookout parking lot.
The bird was seen along the bike path at the edge of a beaver pond west of the parking area at the end of Vanier Rd. It was seen again in the same location on the 13th.
The female Lesser Scaup and the female HARLEQUIN DUCK are still on the Rideau River between Strathcona Park and the Rideau Tennis Club, and the Carolina Wren at 868 Acadian Gardens in Orleans as well as the two Carolina Wrens at 46 Lakeview in Aylmer, Quebec.
