The median income for a household in the county was $32,626, and the median income for a family was $41,556.

The Lac Qui Parle Watershed, a major watershed of the Minnesota River Basin, drains an area of 806 square miles in Minnesota as well as another 350 in South Dakota.
In the lower Minnesota Valley reach, the Lac Qui Parle collects from the south, Ten Mile Creek (the lower section is also known as Three Mile Creek), and other small tributaries, the majority having been largely channelized or ditched.
The Lac Qui Parle River Watershed is situated in the Northern Glaciated Plains Ecoregion.

The Lac qui Parle area, which includes over 15,000 acres of grassland in the Lac qui Parle Wildlife Management Area, Lac qui Parle State Park, Nature Conservancy preserves and other wildlife areas, is a major part of the state’s remaining prairies.
In Chippewa, Lac qui Parle and Swift Counties, 29 prescribed burns on nearly 3,000 acres were conducted as part of this project during 2000 and 2001.
The Lac qui Parle County survey has been completed and a map of rare features is now available as a result of this project.

Clues: Find the historic Lac Qui Parle Mission Site.  It is about 1/2 mile east of Lac Qui Prarle State Park.  The mission and park are separated by the county line between Lac Qui Parle County (park) and Chippewa County (mission).
When facing the mission house, look to your right and find the walking path leading up the hill.  Take this path to the Ferry Road site marker.
From there, go about 75 paces up the trail and find the tree with three trunks on your left.  Behind this tree there are a few railroad ties that look somewhat like a bench.  The letterbox is hidden under the railroad ties.
