The Lackawanna River Corridor Association (LRCA) was created by local citizens in 1987 to promote the restoration and conservation of the Lackawanna River and its watershed resources in the great Northeast Pennsylvania.
Since 1987, the LRCA has worked pro-actively with other community groups and public agencies to plan and promote projects which are addressing the issues of water pollution, recreation, community development, land and water conservation, public involvement with their river and watershed, and the public policy decision making which affects the river and watershed.

The Department is in charge of coordinating the activities of the Lackawanna Watershed Program funded by a $30,000,000 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to improve the water quality of the Lackawanna River by eliminating combined sewer overflows from our sewage treatment systems and eliminate acid mine drainage (AMD) contaminating the river.
Our consulting team, headed by Montgomery Watson Harza, is working with the Lackawanna River Basin Sewer Authority, the Scranton Dunmore Sewer Authority and the Lower Lackawanna Sanitary Authority to correct and eliminate combined sewer overflows (CSO) that directly discharge untreated sewage into the Lackawanna River.
The Department is also coordinating the countywide Geographic Information System (GIS) project that will provide aerial photography, computer mapping of all parcels in the county, streets and addresses to improve 911 emergency response, and economic development planning.
