In the current report we describe two patients in whom mesencephalothalamic expanding lacunae were observed on MR imaging and in whom the referring complaints were related to triventricular hydrocephalus that was caused by obstruction and stenosis of the cerebral aqueduct and compression of adjacent brain parenchyma.
Increases in the number of lacunae in the mesencephalic tegmentum and the size of the lacuna in the left red nucleus are evident.
Although CT scanning, ventriculography, and pathological studies demonstrated triventricular hydrocephalus and obstruction of the cerebral aqueduct by the expanding lacunae, the patient's mental deterioration was thought to be due to the local effect of expanding lacunae in the thalamus (thalamic dementia).

The study of bone turnover requires accurate assessment of osteoclastic bone resorption, that becomes even more important in pathologic bone loss due to the uncoupling between bone formation and bone resorption.
Many techniques, generally based on the detection of the resorbing lacunae (pits) due to the bone degradation, allow to estimate bone resorption, but none of them quantitatively and directly measures the volume of resorbed bone.
We propose a reliable and relatively simple method, based on contact surface profilometry, to evaluate directly and quantitatively the volume of resorbed bone.

 Introduction
In the cavernous portion of the male urethra the epithelium is of two types, stratified columnar and stratified squamous.
The epithelial surface shows many glandular recesses called lacunae of Morgagni which continue into branching tubules known as the gland of Littre.
The terminal part of the urethra is lined by a mucosa of nonkeratinized stratified squamous epithelium.
