Lad mags, if they were to cater for men's real needs, should recognise men as thinking, feeling beings who need to directly bond with each other - not bond over the denigration of women.
Lad mags encourage men to view women as inferior, thus perpetuating a culture of contempt against women.
Lad mags speak to men and boys as if they were sexually voracious and callous ape-like subhuman brutes, and encourage them to live up to this stereotype.

Lads magazines are essentially harmless, they pander to male fantasies but the real dangers are in the teen girl magazines which are openly sexual in their advice, they should be on the top shelf.
Lads mags have gone from fun and entertaining to low-rent porn mags and their place on supermarket shelves should reflect that.
Lads mags used to be a bit of fun, but recently they seem to be having a competition to see who can get the most naked women in the magazines.

Now the Lad is a simple creature, and he enjoys many of the simpler pleasures in life - eating, drinking, the misfortunes of others, amazing and bizarre pictures, and of course, the idea that every woman in the world is both amazingly pretty, and spends a large portion of each day semi-naked.
The Lad always looks on the funny side; take any major disaster or tragedy, and within 30 minutes, e-mails around the world will be sent containing jokes to lighten the collective mood; these e-mails are sent by Lads.
He'd still be in the pub farting and laughing about it, that's where, because he existed before Lad's mags, and he'll still exist when they are gone, for he is one of the ages of man. Let's call it the Age of Lad.

Lad mags also offered men the chance to look at fashion, lifestyle choices and relationships as never before, together with the latest must-have gadgets and loadsa lists.
Renton, Sick Boy, Begbie and Spud first made their hellos with the publication of Irvine Welsh's Trainspotting in 1993 - a tale that focused on a group of Scottish heroin addicts and was based on the drug culture of Leith, which Welsh had had first-hand knowledge of over an 18-month period.
You may find it hard to think back to a time when lad and chick lit didn't exist, given how our book stores are groaning under the weight of new titles, and cinema screens are filled with their celluloid adaptations.

Loaded (magazine) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Loaded, first published by IPC in 1994, is the oldest British "lads' mag" - "For men who should know better".
It was founded by James Brown, a former deputy editor of the music weekly New Musical Express.
Loaded captured the lad culture of the 1990s like no other magazine; its glorification of British male "rogues" (Liam Gallagher, Oliver Reed, Paul Gascoigne etc.) was only outstripped by its fondness for titillating photoshoots with nubile C-, B-, and occasionally A-list celebrities.

"Lad mags" have been darlings of the publishing industry for hooking the coveted 18- to 34-year-old male subscriber with plenty of hot, minimally clothed babes in provocative poses, sex talk, the latest must-have gadgetry and chic clothes.
Giant, which hit the streets on Tuesday, is a fresh celebration of all things pop cultural, but one of its strengths is that it's not grounded only in the moment.
They track a changing mix of quirky indexes -- the number of times the word "indeed" was used in The New York Times one month, the top 10 selling video games of all time or the priciest TV ads last year.

The "lad" genre, born and raised in the mid '90s, has hardly gone unnoticed by the media and publishing industries, spawning books, magazines, blogs and more.
But the promise of perpetual adolescence, like the promise of hyper-sophisticated sexual dexterity, can be fleeting, and the laddie craze appears to have passed its peak, with lad lit titles fetching disappointing revenue for publishing houses and the beer-swilling, chick-scoring mag titles hitting a wall.
Plus, with Maxim's leading circulation of 2.5 million and Stuff coming in second at 1.3 million, none of the lad mags have ever surpassed Playboy's dominance in the men's general interest department (though, despite maintaining a circulation of around 3 million, the brand itself has seen plenty of trouble in the internet era).

Lad lit authors may be truthful about young men's preoccupations, but the recipe for great escapist reading does not include ample servings of stuff people would rather not know.
What could be mistaken for a process of detection is actually an act of construction on the part of women who already have a pretty good sense of what's going on in the locker room and prefer to imagine something more appetizing.

Nobody’s expecting lad’s magazines to be a regular sex-ed manifesto, but it would be nice if just occasionally they could get something topical, erotic or even sexy into their sex coverage.
Because in lad’s mags editors minds this is ‘boring’ – forget that it might be what their readers want and could lead to readers having a great sex life.

The idea of regulation of ‘lads’ mags’ as a specific category is a ridiculous waste of everyone’s time and energy, and I’m shocked that if got so much air-time.
That's a subjective opinion though; I personally agree that taking the content of lad's mags seriously would give a person a somewhat distorted view of things, but I don't think they're meant to be taken seriously, nor do I think that most people lack the intelligence to realise this.
