Diwa was born in San Rogue, Cavite on June 27, 1863, the third of the ten children of Mariano Diwa and Cecilia Nocon, natives of San Francisco de Malabon (now Gen. Trias) Cavite.
For four days Diwa was kept alone in his cell and left to die of thirst and hunger.
Because of this feat, Diwa was promoted to the rank of colonel in the revolutionary army.

Together with Bonifacio and Plata in the first Katipunan "triangle" was Ladislao Diwa, a court clerk in the district of Quiapo, Manila.
Introduced to the association by Ladislao Diwa, a town-mate from San Roque in Cavite, Basa served as Katipunan president for two years, finally being replaced by Bonifacio himself.
Plata and Diwa, court clerks, and Arellano and Basa, employees of the military, had an inside view of the actual machinery of colonial administration and control.

In October 1892, Katipunan's original members convened and elected the first Supreme Council: Deodato Arellano (President, or Supremo), Andres Bonifacio (Comptroller), Ladislao Diwa (Fiscal), Teodoro Plata (Secretary), and Valentin Diaz (Treasurer).
In February 1893, the organization elected a new Supreme Council: Roman Basa (President, or Supremo), Andres Bonifacio (Fiscal), Jose Turiano Santiago (Secretary), Vicente Molina (Treaturer), and Briccio Pantas, Restituto Javier, Teodoro Plata, Teodoro Gonzales, and Ladislao Diwa as councilors.
In early 1895, the Katipunan elected a third set of its Supreme Council: Andres Bonifacio (Supremo), Emilio Jacinto (Fiscal), Jose Turiano Santiago (Secretary), Vicente Molina (Treaturer), Pio Valenzuela (Physician), and Pantaleon Torres, Aguedo del Rosario, and Doroteo Trinidad as councilors.

When Rizal was arrested in 1892, Bonifacio realized that Spain would never grant the requested reforms.

This troika in Tondo evolved into a rhythm of thousands in the Islands.

Together with his two friends Ladislao Diwa and Teodoro Plata, he formed the first triangle of a secret society which bore the initials K.K.K. The three letters stood for Kataastaasan Kagalang-galang na Katipunan nang manga Anak nang Bayan, or Katipunan, for short.
The name Katipunan shows how Bonifacio was influenced by Rizal.

Later in 1875, Tondo was also the birthplace of the poor but brilliant Emilio Jacinto, who became known as the Brains of the Katipunan.
Coincidentally, Tondo also gave birth to the Katipunan on July 7, 1892, when the latter, with friends Ladislao Diwa and Teodoro Plata, founded this secret society on Calle Azcarraga (now Claro M. Recto Ave.).
