Under the treaty of Krevo concluded in 1385, the grand duke of Lithuania, Ladislaus Jagiello, together with his brother and the whole of Lithuania, were converted to the Latin rite and Ladislaus married Jadwiga.
Through Ladislaus Jagiello, Poland entered into a union with Lithuania, a country covering a vast territory between the Baltic and the Black Sea, inhabited by a mixture of pagan Lithuanians and Orthodox Christians in the Rus territory captured by Lithuania.

Casimir I, the Restorer (Polish: Kazimierz I Odnowiciel) (July 25, 1015 - November 28, 1058), duke of Poland, was the son of Mieszko II of Poland and Rixa von Lothringen.
Casimir married Dobronega (Maria) of Kyiv and they had two children: Boleslaus II, King of Poland and Ladislaus Herman, duke of Poland.
