Lady Snowblood is similar to yakuza films of its time with its scenes of lopped off body parts and geysers of blood, and carefully composed wide screen and color imagery.
One could say Tarantino double dipped from Fujita, using the basic narrative of Lady Snowblood for both the character of The Bride, the avenging female assassin, and for the back story of O-Ren, the girl who kills her parents' murderer.

 [KFCC] Lady Snowblood Review
With a sense of violence that borders on being exploitative, Lady Snowblood slices and dices her way towards the throne, taking up her bladed scepter as reigning queen of 70’s vindication cinema.
Lady Snowblood is probably most enjoyable when one approaches the film with a desire to see severed limbs and excessive blood, as opposed to careful plotting and well developed character arcs.
On the other hand, the ladies love a story about a woman out for vengeance, even if it means wading through an over abundance of butchery in order to get to the point where their cinematic sister divvies out the justice.

Lady Snowblood might appear to be made from the same wood than other Kazuo Koike titles, like Lone Wolf And Cub or Samurai Executioner, but it isn’t.
In the case of Lady Snowblood, while the action was good and some of the assasinations were quite clever, I couldn’t connect with Yuki at all, I couldn’t feel her grief.
But where Lady Snowblood falls short are the characters, since they are not as engaging or interesting as other characters by Kazuo Koike and knowing this, I do recommend it to any of his fans.

Arrested and sentenced to death Snowblood is offered a deal by the Japanese secret police to become a spy.
Her mission is to infiltrate the house of a leading anarchist and discover the location of a secret letter; the contents of which threaten to topple the government if the scandle ever gets out.
The motivations for Snowblood's character are not so defined here (in that the pure desire for vengeance that drove her previously are replaced by a will to fight for the underdog) and the film fails to engage in quite the same way.

Chances are you've been hearing a lot about LADY SNOWBLOOD in relation to Quentin Tarantino's blood gusher KILL BILL.
Four bandits murder a man and gang-rape his wife, who is kept as a personal whore by one of the killers.

Lady Snowblood: Blizzard from the Netherworld / Shurayukihime
There's a lot of early expositional scenes where we see Shurayuki take on her Lady Snowblood persona, a strong woman whose swordsmanship (and brutality) is second to none and who can take on many men at a time and win.
I can understand why the film is structured as it is, to establish the Lady Snowblood persona right at the start without any desire to show the complicated backstory, but it really does need serious brainwork to try to make sense of the first phase of the movie.
That said, by establishing what Lady Snowblood is in the first six minutes of the film you're so instantly sucked in that you're quite prepared to put in the extra work because, quite simply, you want to experience more of this fabulous character.

Love Song of Vengeance retains Lady Snowblood's visual style, as well: most of the sets and costumes are brightly coloured and intricate, with some fine composition (though it didn't feel as full of starkly arresting images as the first film).
Two of the early fight sequences as Yuki escapes from the police are particularly impressive: one's an extended single-shot chase sequence with Yuki running down a lane towards the camera and fighting off attackers as she runs; the other is on a beach, with Yuki standing alone on the sand encircled by policemen.
