As the most illustrious of the illustrators for the Ladybird children's books, Wingfield set the tone for the publisher and created a distinctive look: bright primary colours, blue skies, cotton-wool clouds and children running around, limbs akimbo, when they weren't trying to mend kites or conduct wide-eyed experiments on miniature pulleys.
For anyone under the age of 50, a glance at an old Ladybird book is a peek into a lost age of innocence.
It goes unmentioned in the books because it is something we were unaware of at the time.

Cinderella (1964), the first book of series 606d, was the only one to be issued with a dust wrapper as 1965 saw Ladybird doing away with dust wrapper, but producing matt pictorial boards instead.
Also in the 80's Ladybird starting using photography instead of illustrations in some of their books - for some reason these were not as popular as the more beautifully illustrated earlier books.

This book is in good condition - a little.
These early titles are hard to date accurately but this book is from around the 1930s.

Some collectors want only the standard sized Ladybird books that were first issued in 1940.
Personally, I can't get too excited about Ladybird books after the 1970s with the exception of a few series such as the wonderful Puddle Lane books.
