Lafayette County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas.
Lafayette County was formed on October 15, 1827 and named for the Marquis de Lafayette of France who fought for America in the American Revolutionary War.
In the county the population was spread out with 25.40% under the age of 18, 8.10% from 18 to 24, 24.40% from 25 to 44, 24.40% from 45 to 64, and 17.70% who were 65 years of age or older.

In 1832 when the office of Arkansas Surveyor was created, he was appointed to the post and in 1836 he was elected Governor of Arkansas.
After the war’s end, criticism of Arkansas regiment (commanded by Archibald Yell, who was succeeded by Roane after Yell’s death at Buena Vista) and its performance under fire followed Roane; accusations of incompetence leveled by Albert Pike led to an inconsequential duel between the two political rivals in July of 1847.

During the early development of the Arkansas oil fields, prospecting and locating structures favorable for the accumulation of oil and gas was based almost entirely on information gained by the study of the relationship of rock units in time and space from records of previously drilled wells.

Tommy Goodwin, a lifelong resident of Stamps, Arkansas and Lucy Porter, of Marshall, Texas, met on the Internet in the Summer of 1996.
In the summer of 1997, Lucy saw the need for a County newspaper in Lafayette County that was in and part of the county and would cover local events and news.
With this goal in mind, she produced the first issue of the Lafayette County Press, which went on the stands on August 7, 1997.
