First president is Hammer DeRoburt, who remains president until 1976 and is after two other presidents (Bernard Dowiyogo (1976-1978) and Lagumot Harris (1978)) re-elected as president in 1978.
Between 1997 and 1998 Kinza Godfrey Clodumar becomes president and in 1999 René Reynaldo Harris becomes president for the first time.
The political situation has not stabilized as Harris assumed power in August 2003 for the fourth separate time.
