CLEAR or “Conservation of Laguna de Bay's Environment and Resources” -- a tripartite body composed of the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA), the non-government Society for the Conservation of Philippine Wetlands (SCPW), and Unilever Philippines -- was the toast of the 19-member, Germany-based Living Lakes network.
It said Laguna de Bay, “through the partnerships forged by the LLDA with the different lake stakeholders, including industries, has gained significant success in the implementation of a sustainable lake management program geared toward the improvement of water quality of the lake and its tributary rivers.”
In a statement, Laguna de Bay and its partner lakes asked the participants of the Johannesburg summit to “press for the implementation of (the 1992 summit's) Principles of Sustainable Development as the basis for the protection of lake ecosystems in the world and, with that, the basis for life on earth.”
