Lagwagon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lagwagon is a punk rock band originally based in the small town Goleta located just outside Santa Barbara, California.
Their latest album, entitled Resolve, was released on the 1st of November 2005 and is a homage to the life of Derrick Plourde, original drummer for Lagwagon and Bad Astronaut.
Lagwagon has also featured on several compilations such as Rock Against Bush, Vol.

Lagwagon might well be such a band, and while they don’t completely reach disaster proportions on Live in a Dive, they don’t exactly impress, either.
Lagwagon debuts two new songs on this album: “Mister Bap,” which isn’t really a song and is a complete mess – and “The Chemist,” which is better, but still nothing to write home about.
In terms of a performance, Lagwagon pretty much acts as you’d expect them to: they fill quiet periods with sophomoric stage banter, play songs at full throttle, and (from the looks of the one song on the enhanced portion of the disc) cater to a mosh-hungry crowd.

 Splendid Magazine reviews Lagwagon: Blaze
Since releasing their first full-length in 1992, Lagwagon (along with NOFX) have spearheaded the Fat Wreck punk awareness campaign with a liberal platform of high octane guitars, jaw bashing rhythms and zippy pop-punk melodies.
Lagwagon pays homage to Jawbreaker on "I Must Be Hateful", while "Never Stops" points a critical finger at the American public's isolationist tendencies.
Lagwagon look to such wrinkled ghouls as Ozzy and The Rolling Stones for truly "classic" rock 'n' roll inspiration and make a mental note not to succumb to greed and living in the past.

Lagwagon — Resolve   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
Lagwagon has been around for tons of years (older than most of their fans, since they started in 1988).
There is a comparable chunk of Lagwagon’s sound to The Vandals, in that a number of their tracks have the same style of hair-metal guitars.
The only thing that provides an impediment to the complete enjoyment of Lagwagon has to be the extended length of tracks like “Automatric”; there just is not enough in the way of new material to keep individuals interested through something that while not tremendously repetitive is enough so to get weary.

Regardless of the tragic circumstances, the Lagwagon faithful will no doubt be pleased with this return to form.

Lagwagon has made 5 full albums since they started out in 1990.
The fourth release in Lagwagon history, is probably their most ambitious one.
In the year 2000 Lagwagon thought it would be "dumb" to put a compilation together called Let's Talk About Leftovers featuring all the songs they put on other compilations, out-takes from their records, and some really "terrible" demos.

 Splendid E-zine reviews: Lagwagon
Anyway, here I am holding the noose, looking like a dope, and Lagwagon escapes unscathed with another one of their patented pop-punk releases that's even catchier than last year's Double Plaidinum.
Vocalist Joey C. spins his stories and commentaries with his slightly off-key and sniveling voice, but the maturity and complexity of Lagwagon shine through as these tunes are dense enough for true musical-lasting-power.
With some choice samples placed in between songs, and an amusing front cover which is either a fine advertisement for dentistry or plastic surgery (I can't figure out which), here's a full bodied package that's quicker, smarter and wittier than you, yet it only takes one Alexander Hamilton to purchase.

ROCKZONE.COM: CD Reviews: Lagwagon - Blaze
For a band with the history and credibility that Lagwagon boasts, their new album Blaze seems like nothing more than a release by one of the bands of the current pop-punk craze that Lagwagon probably influenced.
I know "melodic punk" has always kind of been Lagwagon's thing, and that's kind of where they make it to on this album, not fully plunging into the vast, whiney abyss that is emo.
I know it sounds like I'm saying Blaze is nothing more than an attempt by an almost 15 year old band to "grow" and "mature" by copying what is being accepted by the mainstream today as their own and run with it.

They pull it off with Hoss, even if it still has that Lagwagon style of fast-paced pop-punk and harmonies.

Lagwagon fans are pretty lucky, because it is honestly a miracle the band has managed to stay together for so long.
I would hope so at least, because if you are a punk rock fan and didn’t hear about the tragic death of Derrick Plourde you must have been out harvesting lumber in a Siberian Gulag for the past 8 months.
The music on this record sounds very familiar to Lagwagon albums of yore, and while musically this is not Lagwagon at their best, Resolve definitely displays some of their best lyrical work to date.

Lagwagon: Joey Cape (vocals); Chris Flippin', Chris Rest (guitar); Jesse Buglione (bass); Dave Raun (drums).Additional personnel: E.Dagger (vocals); Angus Cooke (cello).Recorded at Motor Studios, San Francisco, California.Often lumped in with smart-alecky Southern California pop-punk bands like Blink 182 and label mates NOFX, Lagwagon actually aspire to a somewhat artier and more serious brand of hardcore.
Sonically, of course, Lagwagon travels the same road as the aforementioned bands, delivering one straightjacket-tight and perfectly paced mix of Ritalin-fueled drums, buzzing guitars, and Four Freshmen-worthy harmonies after another.
Simply put, on BLAZE, Lagwagon is at the absolute top of it's game, and goes the extra mile by injecting a much-needed dose of substance into an often one-dimensional genre.

IGN: Live In A Dive (Lagwagon) Review
Now, it's Lagwagon's turn, and the pop-punk penta-piece has quite an extensive catalogue from which to draw.
Perhaps the greatest thing about Lagwagon's entry into the Dive pantheon is that the band gives equal treatment to every album, from their pulse-pounding debut through the quintessential Hoss and up to Blaze, their most recent offering.
Dive spans Lagwagon's career with admirable comprehensiveness; the record is, therefore, as spotty as the outfit's history.

With a pair of dynamic guitars and an equally up-tempo bass, Lagwagon pounds out hard-hitting punk rock emphasizing power and speed.
Largely ignoring punk’s traditional angry side, Lagwagon focuses more on recreating the energy of punk and focusing on personal issues rather than the aggression typically a part of the punk scene, though the band’s sound is no less energetic because of its modern emphasis.
Lagwagon’s sound has been picked up by countless other bands and is now one of the most common influences on modern punk acts.

Lagwagon: Double Plaidinum: Pitchfork Record Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
If accurate judgements could be based on packaging alone, Lagwagon's Double Plaidinum would be an incontestable classic; a conceptual hybrid that incorporates both the greatest- hits/ remixed Kiss collection, Double Platinum and "The Beverly Hillbillies" is nothing short of brilliant.
The first major Fat Wreck Chords project, Lagwagon quickly established itself as a bridge between two genres of music that normally wouldn't be caught dead together: Southern California "punk" and progressive metal.
Soon afterwards, however, the band seems to lose touch with exactly what it was that drew people to them in the first place.
